I Got Terminated From A Temporary Job

I am a senior citizen who gets social security which covers my basic expenses.
However, I need to earn extra money for luxuries. I had a permanent job and in March, I got the boot without so much as a thank you after 27 years of my life. It was very hard on me. No card. No Party. No nothing.
Well, lo and behold, I got a two month temporary job that began June 1st. I was so glad to get it but last Thursday, i got rudely terminated because I was told that i was too slow. That really was not the truth. Someone just did not like me and wanted me out.
It was very painful, embarrassing and humiliating how I was treated. I had an unemployment claim before getting this temp job and have reopened it. I also have one more check coming so I should be ok and I have all the sites that I am active on but I have been having some very bad days. I will get over it eventually.
Thank goodness for these sites that pay us to have fun.

Sometimes the higher ups let you go because they want to give your job to one of their friends. It is not your fault but it feels terrible. Thankfully we have fun here.

I liked the temps I worked on. I seem to remember one client complaining that I went to the bathroom a lot. I did. But I wasn't faking it. I had to go! Eventually the temp jobs well dried up. Meanwhile, I started trying to see what kind of work I could do from home. Found sites like this one. Trying to make money online has been a very disappointing road to travel. But at least it's not impossible. It can be done.

I did temp work for many years in the 1970's and the 1980's. When I was a lot younger, I was always sought after and got good evaluations but I noticed a change after I turned 40. I began to get less jobs and more negative evaluations. Eventually, I could no longer get temporary work. I forgot what it was like until last week.
I am beginning to bounce back. I get social security which covers the basics but I like extra work for pampering.

@bostonphil - I notice that Walmart hires a lot of retirees. I have given up on getting any more temp jobs. I don't even check the database any more. I'm in my 60s. They say there is no age discrimination but I think there is. That's why I don't bother.

I agree and I was let go without so much as a thank you, gift card, party, etc. I wish these employers the worst of everything.

@bostonphil were you the only one terminated? your co-workers are probably wondering if they're next.

If you are talking about the job that I had for 27 years, the answer is no. Others were laid off with me. They eliminated the evening shift but did not offer us daytime work but this company had a long history of letting people go just by not giving them hours.
As far as this recent temporary job, other interviewers have already been sent home because they were not producing enough. I think that I was the first one terminated and I may have been a warning to the others.

I can feel for you. No one will stand up against the prejudice of ageism in America.

Ageism is a very great problem in the United States. WE, seniors, often do not get treated well even when we still have a lot to offer. I also live in Texas and there are weak employee and consumer rights.

I am beginning to bounce back and feeling so much better. I got a gift card today from Swagbucks and that helps.
And my lot has always been a big help.

Why should feel humiliated I just do not understand? At the time of joining itself, you know pretty well that it is a temporary one and you have to quit it on so and so date. There is nothing to feel. Be confident and try for another one. If not this, there will be something reserved for you in some other area.

I knew that it was temporary but it was supposed to go until the end of July. It was very embarrassing and humiliating to be told that I was too slow and being let go when temps much younger than me were being kept on.
