Hello friends, it has been really difficult these days for me to save money. I end up finishing majority of my income by end of the month. What are your tips and strategies to save good amount of money every month?

I was not too good at saving money so laid down a few rules for myself. I have another account and a fixed amount gets transferred every month which I cannot touch for a year. I put it into a fixed deposit when it matures .

@devops I agree that FD rates have cone down but it is not much better with mutual funds either since they totally depend on stock market which has been very volatile..

@kiran8 that's a nice strategy. Thanks for the tips. FD these days give a poor return but something is always better than nothing.

create a budget for all your monthly expenditures, buy non-perishable foodstuff in bulk, do not shop impulsively. these are some of the things i follow. having a fixed deposit as suggested by @kiran8 is also something i do. I know interest rates are low now but atleast you gain more interest than keeping in a normal savings account.

Well you have to have money first to save it. That is part of my problem..I don't usually have any left. If I do, I save it. The main thing to do is to not buy one single thing that you don't absolutely need. Period.

Thanks for that quick tip. I have been doing that from long time. I end up with unexpected medical expenses one month and another month there is a birthday of someone close. Any ideas/tips on investment savings?

First, tell us what are the things you spend on. I usually spend moe for my smoking. This I am thinking of cutting down. and putting into practice staying without smoking for as many more hours as possible.

I spend on petrol, groceries and other necessities. Apart from these i end up getting unexpected expenditures like medical expenses, to buy gifts, repairs, etc.. You should definitely consider cutting down on smoking.

I always put money aside for such emergencies when I run out of budget from unexpected cases so I can use it

You have to buy only those what you need and not just those what you want. I am saying that it is very necessary to spend money wisely. So better try to jot down all those things that you are planning to buy and decide whether it suits your "needs" or on your "wants" .
