Photography: Crystal Palace of Petrópolis - Rio de Janeiro

Petropolis, Brazil

Hello dear friends, Three weeks ago I took this picture of the Crystal Palace of Petrópolis (Palácio de Cristal). This place was built as a gift to the Brazilian Royal Princess Isabel, daughter of Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil. This place holds many events in the city such as Bauernfest Petrópolis, that is the celebration of the colonization of the city by the Germans, cultural events and also other huge beer festivals. I am still learning how to use the camera and also don't know how to focus it right, but I am glad I can show you part of my life and city I chose to live in. Thank you so much for reading and I will be happy to interact through your comments!

Interesting ! It is a typical French architecture from the 1870's or 1880's, probably intended to be a greenhouse. I had never heard of this "palace" before and I am amazed to find something like this in Brazil.

@manandezo With boats and trains it was not impossible to import this greenhouse, as it is just a giant Lego, but what a work ! Well, I suppose that nothing is impossible for the daughter of an emperor. Yes, they vaguely look like the London Crystal Palace of 1851. There are not a lot of large greenhouses like this one remaining, it is a rarity. I post a view of those of Lyon. They are from 1865. Thanks to you I have learned something new today

Hi @topffer, at that time Brazil imported everything from Europe, from architecture to mannerism, all came from the Old Continent. In fact, it was built for the princess to grow her plants and, after that, it was used as a museum and later as a place for events of the city. It was inspired in the Crystal Palaces of London and Porto, Portugal. Thank you so much for the comment!

o.o I like that picture! Very nice angle you took it from, too, hun. I don't always like pictures taken from a straight-on view unless it's a very grand piece of architecture making it worth it, but your picture was beautifully taken, even looks like the perfect angle for the building, too, to best showcase it's beauty. You are a pro with the camera already, hun! :) You captured the architectural beauty of the Palace very nicely and I thank you for that pictorial bit of "eye candy" thank you very much! Many alohas and warm greetings to you, mi kuuipo, thank you again!

I would love to be a "pro" with the camera @ladyankh3909, but what you said made me feel like one! Thank you so much! I have some other pictures which I will be posting these coming days and I hope you enjoy them too. I started loving photography because, when I was young, it was really difficult to take pictures, as our family was very poor and we didn't have any camera to eternalize ourselves on a photo. Now that I grew older, I think I deserved a birthday gift I could feel happy with and a camera came into my mind and I bought a Nikon D3400. That was the best gift I could by myself!
