So you think it's easy?

I just got an email from the fella for whom I refinished two pairs of JBL L-100 vintage loudspeakers. He's chipping away the old glue from where the foam grilles go inside the grille frames that I restored. It's a pain in the neck, he told me! I told him I'm glad I've never opened that particular "Pandora's Box," and gave him some advice about how to fix any damage he accidentally causes to the outside walnut veneer part that I restored. So now I'm working on a pair of KLH 17s that will get beautiful (JoAnn's Fabric) screens and become a part of my permanent collection. I had to remove the old screens by taking out the staples one at a time. Then I spray painted the frame black, to match (more or less) the color of the woofers and tweeters. Finally, I will cut the screens out and hot glue them to the screen frames. That's a lot of work! Do you have anything you do that appears easy to others, but actually is quite "nuanced" and/or requires a lot of work? For me, it's a labor of love, so I don't mind it. But I'm not ready or willing to open any new "Pandora's Boxes" right now.

@TiarasOceanView I've never tried that. Horse clippers can cut pretty close.

I could use a good hairdresser. One can only do so much with horse clippers.

Yep. There's often more to what we do than what others see. Think of teachers and their lesson plans, grading homework, etc!

@TheHorse .....I don't bill. I give people info I have found about natural herbal products. Other things too but that is one thing I really enjoy researching.

Just cooking. I enjoy it all even down to the chopping and dicing. I find it therapeutic. I don't do as much of it these days since I've changed my diet and tried to get healthier.

@NJChicaa But ow to make them taste GOOD! A touch of soy. A touch of onion. A touch of garlic. Some tofu to soak up all of the above...

@TheHorse actually I find it more boring to cook "healthy". Lots of grilling, sautéed spinach, sautéed mushrooms, and baked potatoes.

@teamfreak16 Refinishing speakers is mostly working with your hands for motor morons (like me). But don't tell anyone I said that.

Sometimes when I did graphic design work for certain clients, they would ask me why it cost that much . . . it's easy and wouldn't take that long, they'd say. Well if it were that easy and fast, they should have done it themselves and not even bother to ask me .

Frankly, I WOULD care. I am interested in the little things that make people individuals, and in the little things that lead to high quality work.

That will be annoying if he damages your work. For me it would probably be writing limericks and poems. People sometimes remark that it comes easily to me, but actually I spend quite a lot of time on them.

Yes people seems to think that buying a dumpy house, painting and cleaning and sometimes sanding hardwood floors is easy. I have refinished furniture before and that is not an easy job.

Nah, they're pretty sturdy. But you have to be a bit OCD about the subtle parts (fixing corners, getting the screens on straight, etc.)
