Interesting tips on staying healthy

A friend online is ill. She has just had a procedure done as an outpatient in a hospital. She thinks it is a virus. I think if it is she caught it in the hospital.
Tip#1 If at all possible, stay away from the hospital, ESPECIALLY the ER. Sick people go there. Often they are contagious, but go to ER because they have no doctor of their own. If you MUST go there, use hand sanitizer, wash your hands a lot, drink plenty of liquids, get a little sunshine.
Tip #2 Take your own reading material to the doctor's office and to the hospital. Keep your hands off those magazines in the waiting rooms as you do not know who touched them last.
Tip #3. No matter how good the restaurant meal is, it probably is not worth taking home. You may have it too hot or too cold for too long and it will grow bacteria or viruses. When you reheat it it is likely to not get brought up to a safe temperature.
Tip #4 If you notice you have " a little upset stomach" after eating somewhere, every time QUIT EATING THERE. Your body will thank you for it.
Tip #5 If you begin to feel upset stomach or even a headache after eating something, whether at home or out or at friends' house, get some ginger ale or ginger tea. Important: it must have real ginger. Other herbs and spices help combat both food poisoning and viruses, so "spice it up". Cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, thyme, oregano, etc. were all used to preserve food in the past, for good reason.
I hope my friend @mentalward gets to feeling better soon. The stress she has been under this year has been awful. I really appreciate the inspiration for the discussion, though.

Thanks for this reminder. My left knee cap is pretty well trashed. At one time I talked about having the only doc in town work on the issue. I said something to another doc that I knew at the time. She said it would be better to have the surgery done in a larger town to the east of us. Why? The knee doc did good work BUT his infection rate was high. (I've never had anything done but sure made me think.)

Oh a joint replacement is a horrible place to get an infection. I wonder if it is that the doctor has more infections or that the hospital overall has more infections. That would point to a big problem.

that is a very helpful tip to stay healthier. At my age I've been conscious with health so I make some running every morning.

@shshiju so many illnesses come with the mosquitoes. Many people in my area are having problems with tick borne illness.

Since the most sickly people are at the doctor or hospital, it seems like being cautious is a wise move when there.

So many people eat food that isn't really food @GardenGerty
It is a wonder they are not sick more often!
You make some good points here. Imagine (and you know this of course) the illnesses we are exposed to in an emergency room or even a hospital room! Not a place for a sick person.

You are correct about the food and I plead guilty myself. My body tells me when I am being careless. I think modern buildings with no outside ventilation tend to be breeding grounds for illness and a place where things "go around".

Never thought about what you mentioned about reading materials in the waiting room. I always bring a book wherever I go.

I think I read that in an online article. Otherwise, I never had thought of it.
