Or POP as us midwesterners like to call it? I have always been a soda drinker. Usually diet which usually contains aspartame or other fake sugars. I feel the health effects of these are somewhat inconclusive. Some say it can cause cancer, others say it increases your appetite. I am debating on cutting out diet soda and attempting to replace it with water, tea and coffee.
I quit drinking soda for an entire year about 7 years ago. Not sure what made me start up again. But i remember feeling much better.
Have you ever quit drinking pop in entirety?
I also drink nonsweetened carbonated water. Do you think it would be acceptable to still drink this? (No fake sugar or sweetners whatsoever).
And if you did quit, what worked for you?

Nice. I love the taste of water and drink a bunch. But I find myself also drinlig a diet mountain dew or two per day. Since....I dont know when. Pretty scary how we can be so addicted and not even realize it! Do you drink any sort of caffeine? Coffee or tea? Thats part of my problem -during the wee hours of the night I always feel I need a little pick me up.

@maezee - at the time i didnt know it was a sign of withdrawl, until i was talking about it with an ex some time after i stopped. Told her i had a headache of sorts and a bit lethargic for a couple days afterwards. I thought inwas getting sick, there was a cold going around at the time.

Lemonade used to be my favourite but now I have totally cut down on soft drinks as I make juices from fruits that grow in my garden.

@maezee I have several fruits and of those I use mangoes, cherries and bell fruit for making juices.

I limit the use of regular soda to either drinking Cool Aid or Sprite Drinks.

I quit for 8 months once, I started back when I was traveling and the water at the restaurants was nasty and they did not have bottled water.
I think the carbonation is worst than the sweeteners.

I have never quit but keep consumption to a very moderate level. Weeks can go by without.

Low-calorie sweeteners have been proven safe by worldwide government safety authorities as well as hundreds of scientific studies and there is nothing in this research that counters this well-established fact. The FDA, World Health Organization, European Food Safety Authority and others have extensively reviewed low-calorie sweeteners and have all reached the same conclusion - they are safe for consumption.
Moreover, scientific evidence shows us that beverages containing these sweeteners can be a useful tool as part of an overall weight management plan. America's beverage companies support and encourage balanced lifestyles by providing people with a range of beverage choices - with and without calories and sugar - so they can choose the beverage that is right for them.

I am very much a soda drinker, but, also drink orange juice and grape drinks and hot chocolate and sometimes water. I also make lemonade sometimes too. I do not drink coffee or tea anymore so I like my soda. I am also from the midwest and i remember when i would talk to a New Yorker they would call it soda and I called it pop.

I have barely drunk any soda in the last 8 years. I never really cared for it. I don't have cravings for it so when I do drink one I drink it and can go years without drinking another one and be fine. I know some people can't do that because they get caffeine headaches so they go back to drinking them instead of just taking ibuprofen for a headache since that also has caffeine in it and will also make a headache go away. My boyfriend is one of those people. He will say he has a caffeine headache and needs a soda but I tell him to just take ibuprofen and it will go away just the same. Plus if you just stop drinking soda you'll eventually stop having caffeine headaches.
I have always been told that diet sodas are worse than regular and will make you gain more weight. My aunt and cousin drink diet and weight a lot but they stopped drinking them for awhile and switch to regular soda and actually lost a good bit of weight before cutting soda all the way out.
It is healthier to not drink soda because of the high sugar in them. Some people can use a lot of weight by just cutting soda out of their diet and not eating sweets. I wish I was one of those because in these last 8 years not drinking soda hasn't done anything for me weight wise.

softdrink wasn't something we regularly bought and stocked at home. but i do drink it when i eat out because it's usually part of a value meal, and it's just a small one. that would be twice or thrice a month.

I stopped drinking sodas about 10 years ago even though depending on the circumstances I may have an occasional one.
