Did I watch someone die today? A mystery as of yet unsolved.

Yesterday, as I was driving East on Highway 4 to meet a kid client, one off those big semis was just to my right. Suddenly, he started veering into my lane. He was half way into may lane and I was both slowing down and turning to the left, when I realized I had no option but to turn hard to the left, into the fast lane. I didn't have time to check my left mirror. My life was in God's hands at that moment. There was nobody to my left, and the semi finally corrected to the right, as if the driver had just woken up (or gotten off his cell phone), and I was spared.
Today, as I was driving home from the preschool in Berkeley, I was stuck in 20 MPH traffic on Highway 24. Suddenly, I noticed traffic veering to both the right and the left, as if an accident had just happened. I veered to the left, and saw a car, to my right, stopped, at a 45 degree angle. The damage to the left front of the car suggested a high speed collision. But we were going 20 MPH. I saw what appeared to be a small dark-haired Asian woman, unconscious, still belted in and leaning against the slightly open open driver door. A small pick-up truck had stopped in the center median. Was a stroke involved? A heart attack?
As of now, I still don't know what happened. How could there be so much damage to the woman's car when traffic was moving at 20 MPH. Did I see a dead body, or merely a small person knocked unconscious by an air bag? I've scanned the news and heard/seen nothing more than "Crash on East-bound 24 slows traffic." I'm a tad unnerved.

Makes ya want to quit driving don't it @TheHorse ? Depending on the make & model of her car (plastic) even at slower speeds a lot of damage can be caused.

Maybe the accident was going faster then now everyone is slowing down to see the accident? How fast is the road usually though? I hope she's alright.

@TheHorse Oh that is strange. Maybe she did have an episode of a stroke, or fell asleep on the wheel in broad daylight. Hopefully all is okay.

@infatuatedbby I still can't come up with an explanation for the extent of the damage to her car. Maybe she had a heart attack and hit the accelerator. I saw that happen in another incident. The guy didn't make it.

Wow you have been through a lot recently while driving. I thank God that you are physically all right in spite of the psychological trauma you experienced. I have been in accidents and have experienced more mental than physical damage. I hope that the woman you saw is all right or will be and you may never know what happened and that is hard. Life is crazy that way.

@TheHorse I think ptsd is very common for many people and I am sorry you have it and hope nothing happens that will trigger it.

Oh no, I hope she's okay. I'd be wondering about it the whole day if I had witnessed something like that. At least until I get to know what really happened.

I have seen accidents that looked like no one could have survived.....minor injuries.....other accidents the results are not so forgiving. The news often doesn't tell us what we really want to know.

Thanks goodness there were not more cars and people involved. I do hope the woman is ok. It does seem odd that there was so much damage to the care when everyone was going so slow. You take your live into your own hands these days when you drive.

That is strange, maybe sh just passed out.
On the way into town there was a head on wreck at one of the most dangerous intersections around here. I turned off in stead of going around.
Hours later on the way home Recuse was on the side of the road right before the same intersection and someone was being out into the back, with the windows down on that SUV I assume someone got over heated.Pulled over and called for help.
One of those days I reckon.
