I finally bit the bullet.

Some weeks back I accepted the friend request from a person whom I assumed was related to me. I may have mentioned this here before, but as I haven't been quite active as of late, I'm not sure if I have or not. In any case, I knew they were in some way related to me as we had friends in common (on facebook) and also they looked as if they could be related to me. I bit the bullet and messaged her today and asked her if we were related. She asked me who my father was and I told her. She then said "Yes we are related." She didn't go into detail as to how. I didn't ask. However, I have concluded that she must be the daughter of one of my dad's father's siblings. She said she knew my father, but it had been years since they've spoken. I assume they are cousins, which would make me and her 2nd cousins. Well I guess I do have more family out there on my dad's side, even if we aren't directly related.

She looks as if she could be an aunt of mine... I don't think that's the case though. I don't understand how his side of the family can be so secretive. I guess because I grew up with the majority of my influence being from my mom's side.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Wonder that is strange why they are so secretive I agree.

@TiarasOceanView it is quite annoying to be honest. I guess since I was basically raised by my mom's side... I am used to not having any privacy as opposed to my dad's side who seems to keep everything a secret. I also was searching fb and found an aunt that was given up for adoption.

It is just so weird for me. I know everyone on my mom's side. Aunt's, Great aunt's, cousin's and 2nd cousins. Even if we've never met, I know who they are.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Our distant relatives are scattered all over. I know them through a couple of generations then i lose track.

With one bullet bitten why not now bite another? Ask her how she's related to your dad?!

I am pretty sure that I know anyway, and it's not like it would cause a big family reunion. I never knew these people growing up, so figure that it doesn't truly matter.

No. There's not really any opening to do so. I initiated the contact.

I know very little About my dad's side as well. I have his aunt on my Facebook friends list but that's about the extent of that

I have two of my four cousins from that side on my facebook. I hardly ever talk to them. The last time I did, I gave one my number and they never texted or called.

If we take our time well enough to examine this, one will see that we are all related in one way. The Bible recorded God creating just one man and one woman and science didn't really talk much of millions of mammalian apes.

I know that we are all technically related in a miniscule way.
