Tell The Children The Truth

'Matatus' are a culture unto themselves especially 'matatus' that ply the upcountry routes. These 'matatus' have gospel merchants and medicine traders operate within them everyday and it is not uncommon for a 'matatu' preacher to say those who don't remove their hats when the gospel is being preached will go to a Christian hell.
I love 'matatu' preachers because they convince you that unless you look away from your smart phone or fail to respond "Amen" when the call to prayer is advertised the Lord is waiting to burn your very soul.
I love these preachers because they remind us of the naivety in Facebook where pictures of sick children are shared and those who don't type Amen will burn forever and forever.
I have no grudge against anyone earning their living honestly and I I know there are many among us who still believe that Jesus Christ will come back to earth wearing a white face and blue eyes.
I also know that it is easier to sell a fearful gospel. It is even easier to sell the plant a seed gospel because we have been brought up to see anyone questioning religion as an enemy. Anyone who reads the history that makes our grandfathers better than the colonialists is a sinner.
I think 'matatu' preachers can still preach a hopeful Gospel without necessarily scaring the children to submission. Everyone who was schooled through 8.4.4 knows that there is a hell waiting for them out there but if they read their history well they will discover that Jesus Christ was the Teacher preaching the Hopeful Gospel when He walked among us.

I think all cultures have their "matatus". In the US we have called them both "hell fire and brimstone" preachers and also "prosperity" gospels. I know there is another word that I want, but it is early and I am old and forgetful. Just as all cultures seem to have people who abuse faith and religion, as you say, the Hopeful Gospel is available to all. It does not necessarily bring earthly prosperity, but it prospers our souls.
