Favorite "Night" Songs #10 - "Stay the Night"

I have been here on MyLot a little over a year. During that time, I have done 67 music series'. Welcome to #68: my Favorite "Night" Songs countdown. Making his first solo appearance in one of my countdowns, #10 belongs to Benjamin Orr with "Stay the night." The late Benjamin Orr was best-known as the bassist and co-vocalist of The Cars (Orr sang lead on Cars songs such as "Drive," "Candy-O," and "Just what I Needed." After The Cars broke up for the first time, in 1985, Orr released a solo album, 1986's The Lace, which contained his only solo Top 40 hit, "Stay the the Night." The song performed decently, reaching #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It did quite well with the Adult Contemporary crowd, however, peaking at #2 on that magazine's Adult Contemporary chart (I worked at an Adult Contemporary station back in the 80's, and we had this in heavy rotation for awhile.) "Stay the Night" is, for the most part, unlike anything The Cars ever did. In fact unless you recognized Orr's voice, you would probably never realize that it was made by a member of The Cars.
