Busy night tonight. We have loads of admission today. One needs to have an Intravenous insertion, he complains that why is it painful... We tried to explain, he won't listen. He suddenly shift into hysteria mode.
Another one, also needs IV insertion. The cannula was in but the cannula is defective. It was leaking. We also tried to explain, he is telling all staff are new and don't know what they are doing. Beast mode once again...
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to pacify angry people... I love my job but in cases like these... Aahhrrggghhh...

I can imagine how challenging it is being in your line of work. I guess different methods work with different people.

Stay as calm as you can and tell them if they would just lie still that it will make it easier for you to put it in. I do like the comment by Peter about throwing a bucket of ice water on them. Then they would have something to complain about.

I saw some of this when my Mom was in the hospital.
Do you have coworkers also who could help you to calm these people?
It sometimes takes a team effort so I observed.

What is your job? Anyway perhaps this link can help.
Calming an angry person requires a lot of patience. When someone's feeling heated up, hearing the words "calm down" may just make matters worse. Being a good listener and offering some good distractions can both help. However, when...

@RasmaSandra
We are there to help them, that is why before we do any procedure we would try to explain it to them. Every medications and its benefits. This happens rarely but it gets in to my nerves.
