Handkerchief and the cloth napkin days

Handkerchiefs and cloth napkins were very much there in our daily life not so long ago but now all that is history.
Who can forget when handkerchiefs came out from the pocket of your loved one to help you wipe your tears. Who can forget someone deliberately dropping the handkerchief just to be picked up by someone they would be interested in..............
Handkerchiefs came in many sizes some had floral prints, some had checks and some had lace borders like the one you see in the image - the wedding handkerchief
There are facial tissues and paper napkins doing the rounds these days.
What do you think? Considering the garbage that is collected and the money spent should this be banned and we get back to old times?

As intelligent as your suggestion sounds, I seriously doubt that will ever happen. People have become too used to the disposable products in our societies.
I would bet you would hear people saying how unsanitary handkerchiefs and cloth napkins are, if someone ever brought that suggestion up and were being serious about it in today's world...

@allknowing I was sure you did realize that, Allknowing.
It is too bad people would be against going back to cloth napkins and handkerchiefs, though. It really would save a ton of space in the landfills! SMH!

I keep wondering why is it that injustice done...small kerchiefs for women, and large for men. I bet we both have same quantity of snot coming out when we have bad cold. And we women cry more...too..somehow small handkerchiefs, even though pretty never made sense to me.

You are right. It is totally in the hands of the individual to take care of the environment.

Ah ..Ah ..Ah..now ...somebody who needs to realize when I said tissue it does not mean the one that is used in toilet only... @DaddyEvil. See? Now, that tissue can easily be used to wipe face in summers, sprinkled with some cologne and collection of such tissues can be gifted. Simple gift, useful gift, long lasting gift, inexpensive gift, something that does not make other person feel, now I have to think of a gift worth 120 dollars because this is worth 100 dollars. ha ha.

Yes, toilet tissue can be used to wipe the tears, if that is what you want to use... I prefer using a Kleenex to wipe both my nose and tears away, vanny. Technically those might be tissues here, but if you ask someone for a tissue, you are likely to receive toilet paper.
You might want to keep that in mind when you get here, vanny...

Perhaps we should go back to old times! Besides the garbage factor (which is big in itself), I am reading that there are chemicals in paper products too (why didn't I think of that). My mom still uses a handkerchief to wipe off sweat on her face!

@allknowing I know cloth napkins are still around, but not many people I know use them. I'm not even sure where to get handkerchiefs anymore.

Shopping for handkerchiefs was so exciting those days and so was for the cloth napkins that were used at the dining table. I only wish they get back now.

Since paper facial tissues and napkins for the dining table have been around no one will make handkerchiefs any more.

@jstory07 Garbage management is a big concern and something needs to be done at every nook and corner to try and reduce the load.

You wrote this on my birthday last year! We were in the French Alps. I still use hankies and always need to have one handy.

As there has been transformed in the handkerchief so also the love, respect, and culture Nobody weeps for anybody nowadays. Nobody wants or expect any love. Everything is routine, a time-pass, and money oriented. The culture is totally changing. We need not worry about the change which is inevitable.
