Some of you may know that my youngest grandchild is Jack. He is 5 and will be six in October. He is what may be honestly referred to as a pip!! He says the funniest things and he is so grown up and serious when he says them. We have taken all of our grandchildren on trips. The eldest went to England with others and three boys went to Canada, one girl to Boston and two to Philadelphia and another boy to Antietam. Jack has never had his trip. He has decided he wants to go to London!! Good Luck Jack, maybe New London but these days a lively 5-year-old in London is too much for me!! lol He has had a fever that pops up again and again about every two weeks. My daughter had it out with the doctor who said it is just a virus. She told her he is a perfectly healthy 5-year old and obviously he is fighting off something. They tested him for Lyme and it is positive. He is now getting a 3 week round of antibiotics. My daughter is very pleased with herself for sticking up for what she knew was right!! I am proud of her too!! Jack will be going to Kindergarten in a few weeks, it is hard to believe my sweet baby who I nannied for 2 years is getting all grown up.

She is usually very quiet and it takes guts to stand up to a doctor and insist you know your child the best.

Physicians should listen to the parents! Thankfully Jack will get the treatment he needs, but parents should not have to argue to get the tests that are needed.

I am glad she stood up to the doctor as well - I have had to do that many a time and the doctors are very aware of me with my children when I enter the consulting rooms.

Yes but my daughter has 5 kids, she has seen a virus and this was not reacting like that. It's like when they told me my daughter's leg wasn't broken, I argued with them but they sent us home. The next day they called to tell me to bring her in for a cast, her leg was broken, dah!! Dr mom knew it didn't look like a normal sprain.

Doctors are not Supermen and when we know something is not right it is our right to keep demanding further action. I am glad Jack is getting the treatment he needs. I was afraid you were going to say he had leukemia as that can be a sign as well.

Aw man that sucks that Jack has Lyme Disease. Hopefully the antibiotics will take care of it. And hopefully he won't have any lasting repercussions from it.

@BelleStarr Has he been having any other symptoms other than the fever? If not, I think he may be able to beat it.

I'm so glad your daughter fought the doctor. A good friend in Kansas, her tiny girl was really sick and the doctor failed to figure it out. She is maimed for life and her mother said she had dog meds for lyme disease in the entry way, to their house. So it wasn't a new thing...

I've heard of several instances when Lyme Disease was not considered and parents have had to diagnose themselves and ask for the tests. I would think testing for Lyme's would be standard procedure these days, especialy this year. I hope he's ok.

You would think but it isn't obviously. I told her even if it came back negative, I would recommend she take him to a naturopath, they have tests that can detect it even when traditional tests are negative.

i think when parental instincts kick in, parents will do anything and everything. is lyme disease contagious?

No it is not contagious, you get it from a tick bite.
