Free lunch on a famous restaurant

I went for a lunch with my family to a very famous restaurant, we often go there and like the food and service there.
First time in so many years we got a mistake in their work, as my husband got a piece of plastic like thing in his rice.
We called the waiter and informed him, who informed the manager immediately.
Manager offered us another meal but we were not in mood.
Even though we had already paid the price, and insisted to let it be, the manager returned our money to our account and treated us with sweet dishes.
So it was a free lunch for us.
Have this ever happened to you? What would be your reaction if it happened with you?

Actually, it happened on my birthday. We went to a popular restaurant and I think that it was their fryers that quit working. We watched meals being delivered but never ours. When it did finally arrive, we were starving. When it came time to pay the bill, the waitress said that we didn't have to pay. She was the only one that made anything on the meal lol.

It was definitely a nice birthday.
Why did not they charge for the meal? Because it was delivered so late?

Yes it was best customer service we have ever experienced.
Earlier it has happened with few restaurants but they try to cover up and returned the money also but we could not trust them again.

As you are a regular customer on that particular restaurant, restaurant people won't like to lose a loyal customer like you, therefore, they immediately swung into action and realized their mistake.
It has not happened with me. However, after reading your discussion I am thinking next time when I visit a restaurant, I will keep a small piece of plastic in my pocket and will order rice. I might get a free lunch.

@Bodyandbrain It shows that the restaurant cares for their regular customers and they showed due courtesy in returning your money.
I could try the trick but perhaps I need to go to same restaurant where you went, it might work there.

My husband once got a chicken bone in his soup. That was nice of the manager to give you a free meal for the mishap. =)

Yes, they don't want to loose their customers and ready to accept the mistakes. It was really a gentle gesture of the manager what he did.

Free sounds good but it was not enjoyable.
We trust the restaurant and still go there because in many years of our visits it was the first error, they accepted their mistake.

Yes this has happened with us (friends group) at one of the premier hotels in Pune.
there was a stapler pin in the plate of Jeera rice...the manager got a good scold from us...he offered to replace the meal, but we refused and went to other restaurant...paying bill was of course never a question and they did not even ask for it.

My God! What if someone eat that stapler it was so dangerous.
I can understand that when something happens like this, it spoils our mood, so you decided to eat somewhere else. They were not expected to ask for the bill.

Yes,that's right. Mostly restaurants try to cover up their mistakes and just offer to change the meal.

No it didn't taste better and we didn't finish our food as the error spoiled our joy of eating. They returned our money because it was their mistake.
