Essential and Non-Essential

As I was getting prepared for the lecture I came across Essential and Non-Essential amino acid. If you are a biology student you would have probably heard of it. How strange are we? Essential amino acids are called essential because they are not produced in the body and should be obtained from our diet and Non-Essential are produced in our body.
Similar is the case in our lives, things that we already own or have hold no values in our lives and things we don't have and are struggling to get hold a lot of value.
It might sound a little weird but that is what actually came to my mind when I read the concept.

You are right, of course, to say that we value more the things which we have to pay for (either with money or by the sweat of our brow) and tend to value less the things which we are given or already have.
Of course, it isn't necessarily true to say that the 'non-essential amino acids' are less important to a healthy existence than the 'essential' ones, so it's a case of rather misleading or muddled nomenclature. I think that what is meant is that those amino acids which we don't manufacture in our bodies are 'essential to a proper diet', in other words, they should properly be called "{i]essential-to-the-diet[/i] amino acids" and "non-essential-to-the-diet amino acids" but, as that's a bit of a mouthful, it is shortened to 'essential' and 'non-essential'!
