Today is Swiss National Day and it's a holiday here. Most people is already vacationing, the next 15 days will be particularly quiet and peaceful. Talking about August, the flowers of the month are the gladiolus and poppy. The birthstones are also two: The Peridot, a green stone, that is believed to instill power and the Spinel, a bright red stone, that is said to protect the owner from harm and sadness. In the USA August is the month that has the highest birth rate; in the UK it is September. In Sweden August is the month for eating crayfish. Our Ikea store will host the delicious annual Crayfish Buffet. Today is hot and we have a warning for a heat wave that should last until Sunday. Is it hot, cool or average in your area? The photo is last year "Ikea Crayfish Buffet.

The reason that September has the highest birth rate in England is that we always celebrate at Christmas.

This is a logical explanation, you always celebrate Christmas and Americans always celebrate Thanksgiving.

Enjoy all that you do today on your national holiday! I've never tried crayfish, but I don't know if I'd like it or not, I'm not a huge fish or seafood lover.

@Juliaacv They are good, Ikea serves them simply boiled in a spicy bouillon, it's the same way they are served in Louisiana.

It's still rainy season here. The month of August in this country is known as the month of suffering and poverty. Don't know exactly what the history is but I think it has something to do with agriculture. It's the lean month with very little harvest.

In many countries August is a month of little harvesting and I can understand that back in times it was a hard month for farmers. We had more rain than usual in July, so this year water is surely not a problem.

Ikea in Italy does not host the crayfish buffet, may be the owner decided to host this Swedish celebration in Switzerland because he lived here. I go every year, it's a very good buffet and we go with friends, it's a funny evening.

@LadyDuck they are small crayfish. here, when we have shrimps for the viand, we can eat the whole seafood complete with the scales, or the outer cover of the shrimps, as long as it is soft.

@changjiangzhibin89 I am glad that your wife is back. Fresh salmon is very expensive here, because Switzerland has no sea at all. I buy frozen salmon from Sweden, is good and not expensive.

The buffet is open to the public, you have to book the table in advance because the places are limited. It is not free, for the Ikea customers who own an Ikea card it is around $15, for all the others $20.

@LadyDuck Right when I was getting comfortable with the idea that August was going to be hot, we get some cool days. My granddaughter said her temp in Texas was 110 F and I know the west coast is in the triple digits too. This weather we're having is really different for every one. We're also on our second day of pouring rain.
