What is Your Lazy Day?

When I was growing up and stayed with my grandmother her lazy day was on Saturday. All she did this day was make breakfast. Afterwards, she would sit down in her favorite chair in her bathrobe and night gown. She would sip her coffee and read her newspaper from front to back.
Grandma sat in her chair from sunrise to sunset. She never changed out of her night clothes and didn’t bother to fix lunch or dinner. We all knew when Saturday arrived it was up us to raid the refrigerator and fend for ourselves.
On this day no one was allowed to work or even clean the house. My grandmother never made her bed on Saturday. Now this one shocking, Grandma had only one rule in her house. When you get out of bed, you make your bed. If you play on your bed during the day, you go sleep in your bed. So to see grandma’s bed unmade on Saturday was a surprise to all of us.
Grandma sat in her chair and watched TV and read a book, played puzzle games, or read her newspaper. If anyone called and asked to visit, she would say no. This was her day and she was going to enjoy it.
I have never had a lazy day. However, sometimes on Saturday when I am tired I think of Grandma. I say to myself the reason I am tired is because today is grandma’s lazy day.

Awe what a nice lazy day indeed. My lazy day is on Sundays. I work during the week and i do things on Saturday so when Sunday rolls around i just want to stay home in my recliner chair reading my book, watching movies or just relaxing. It helps me to unwind and get ready for a new work week.

@poehere Yeah i wouldn't do Saturday but i can see maybe she did if she was a church person on Sundays and then had family day ? Maybe saturday was her only day of rest then.

@Blondie2222 No, she never went to church at all. She went visiting on Sundays and it was family day and friends came over to a giant cook out and homemade ice cream.

I feel this is how my grandmother felt too. I still never understood why it was Saturday and not Sunday.

I think we can all learn a valuable lesson from your grandmother. I find it so difficult to have a lazy day but I think I will consider it and work towards it.

Your grandma knew how to tune out the world and relax, not many of us do that sort of thing today. I tend not to do much on Sunday, not due to religious beliefs, maybe laziness?

Sunday always seems like a good choice. However, when Monday rolls around I feel lazy. I have so much to do on the weekends it is impossible to make it a lazy day for me.

Wow. This sounds really cool. I have to admit that your grandma is awesome and enjoying life. I can't have a lazy day like this and never had one. Right now I am so consumed by the work so even Sunday will not be a off day for me. But she rocks. Have a nice day. :-)

Yes she was a cool person. She could be hard in her ways, but at the end of the day you knew she loved you and sat at the table all night long playing games with you.
