Yesterday I cleaned up. I know that may sound strange so when I say "cleaned up" I mean I got out of my daily around the house rags and got into my nicer clothes, not super nice clothes but the nicer clothing I own to go out in the world clothes. I braided my hair because of the prediction of hot weather coming back.
I did feel pretty.
First in the car Tony said "Your hair looks good today." Since its Tony and most days I just have a pony tail, I said "Thank you, I took a bath today."
Later in the day I was standing in line at Dollar General and I heard someone behind me say " You have pretty hair" and I turned around and a woman said it again, "you have pretty hair, all the waves down the back of your head and in a braid." I thanked her and told her I had tamed it for the day usually its massive mess of tangled curls.
I ran by Mrs. Smiths house (she is 91 years old and acts like she is my age and still drives and goes, so cool) and gave her a quart of pickled peaches she had requested from my home canned pantry and always tells me if I look pretty, if she don`t say nothing I need to go back home and do it over! She knows my elderly "special" tenants and I told her one of them colored her hair blonde, again, Then we had a little laugh when I told her I color whats left of the tiny amount of brown, of the tenant just knew mine was about all natural she would not be coloring her hair so fast. Mrs. Smith has white hair, not gray also.
So when people pays you a compliment do you accept it gracefully with a mere thank you?

Inside I do not naturally love compliments,as I do not like to be noticed at all, but outwardly, I do thank the person of course.

I am shy and I understand, but in my older years I am better than I was when I was younger accepting compliments, but I reckon its who they are coming from, some people say nice things because you KNOW they want something.

For some reason what few compliments I have received in life have made me self conscious and uncomfortable.

I have received a few that were uncomfortable from men, when I worked as a waitress.

Now if they do it loudly and in a crowd so THEY get heard, that`s not a comfortable situation because then I am not sure that they are not making fun of me BUT I have learned to use a smart mouth come back in an ever go nice Southern way to cut them down.

someone told me I have pretty hair just the other day.....I laughed and said she must be kidding LOL She said she loved the color.
But otherwise, I've not been to a beauty shop for about 15 years now....and no hair cuts at all past me occasionally attempting to trim the ends myself.

Yes, you do. It should let you know that the effort you put into fixing yourself up has been noticed.
That's a good thing. You should be proud. Receiving a compliment is a gracious thing. Giving compliments is just as important. People work hard putting themselves together and when it's being recognized you shouldn't take it lightly.
How would you feel if nobody ever gave you a compliment?
I'm going to give you a compliment for looking after Mrs. Smith. Thank God for you!

Depends on the situation. I either say thank you or just smile and nod.

I become unladylike when I get those from lowlifes. I can cuss like a sailor and do some body grabbing and shakin... To much info?

I have learned to do so. I used to try to downplay it. Now I just say thank you.

It really depends. My husband always compliments me, he always makes sure I feel beautiful in his eyes.... even if I look like I just rolled out of bed... HA. Sometimes I say comments back just like you actually! If I get a compliment on my hair... 'today was washing the hair day' or that shirt really looks nice on you..... ' I did the laundry'....
Then sometimes I get compliments when I am being hit on.... I usually ignore them because they have an agenda....
Then there are times when I get myself dolled up, I feel like I might look good and when I get compliments on those days I usually will say thank you or give a warm smile and give a compliment back.
So it depends on the day I guess!
