Is hubby right?

Last month a discount store advertised that they wanted to help the local food bank. Of course that meant, buy stuff from them to give to the needy.
Hubby thinks that if I buy what we eat and give it to the food bank many people will not like it and will either put it aside or waste it. I found bags of brown rice and cans of refrieds and black beans and cans of green beans and I piled them up for the food bank drive. I hope that somebody is hungry enough to appreciate what I gave and also has the ability to boil water so that they can cook the brown rice.
Our supper last night was not costly but fed us well: vegie stew with kidney beans for protein. Smashed avocado and lemon and garlic spread on home bread. A couple of home cherry tomatoes and a chunk of home cucumber. No sugar added apple pie that I made. Simple and fed us well.

Some people would rather go hungry than to eat a simple meal. I eat very well with little expense, even when I have visitors.

@marguicha I don't understand why food has to be complicated. Tasty, for sure, but not fancy.

Too picky at the food bank? Oh my the ungratefulness.
As long as something is not out of date, I have eaten from the food bank and was glad of it.
So good of you to donate.
Husband might be right..I sure would not donate if I thought it was going into the trash.

@Tampa_girl7 Remember that old commercial? "Try it, you'll like it."

@Tampa_girl7 Easy peasy. Depending on what you like. I generally toss in 1 cup of brown rice to 3 cups of water. Makes for a grand base for pilaf or what ever you like, including rice pudding! Brown rice and beans is tasty, too. I'm a huge fan of chopped onions and bell peppers and mushrooms, saute that in a little olive oil and toss the mix into the cooked brown rice. Add some garlic powder or include garlic chunk in the oil mix.

Sounds like a great meal to me.
I sometimes go to our food bank. They do tend to have a lot of things that I wouldn't eat. I kindly refuse what I know we won't eat as I know it will just go to waste.
They have some shelves with the foods that aren't part of the normal picking where you can pick one item from each shelf.
