New meaning to a 'stiff, upper lip'

We hadn’t long been in France in our motor-home when we chanced upon a Medieval Fair. I’ve written a bit about it before. One of the guys who kept the crowd entertained had a bobbin and string thing and did some fantastic tricks with it. His ‘pièce de résistance’ was balancing a huge iron crowd-barrier on his top lip. Some people are born to entertain I think.

@BellaDoc When the fairs are hosted in Medieval villages is even better.

@BellaDoc We chanced on this one by accident but it was SO entertaining. All the townspeople, even if they didn't have a particular role to play, were wearing medieval costumes.

I agree, some people were just born to entertain. A cousin of mine married an American, and he was the same way. She told me that when they'd travel, quite often it was on cruises and when they went to the ports of call he would do things like this. He'd balance chairs and whatnot on his forehead or his chin and people would pay him. Myself I wouldn't want to be with someone like that because they are too attention-causing, but she said that they always bought stuff on their ports and never paid for it out of their own pocket, just what he made from balancing.

I'd hate being the centre of attention too but I guess it was good that his talent paid for their bits and pieces.

@JudyEv @vandana7 LOL! Thank you, Judy! I love entertaining people on myLot! I have found that entertaining people online and believing you can entertain people offline is NOT the same! Believe it or not, I am a relatively shy person offline. I can and do force myself to do things that scare the crap out of me, but I do them because I want the experience. (Humiliating myself in front of a crowd is not something I have ever been interested in doing. I don't even like to give speeches to a small group of people!)

Are you saying you think he is born to entertain? His comments are certainly entertaining at times.

It wasn't a lightweight object. It took a good effort to get it vertical above him for starters.

Wow - that is a pretty crazy occupation. I love travel for the surprise discoveries like this fair. There's an awesome one in Josslin, Brittany every Bastille Day. I went 19 years ago....sadly I have no photos as my camera was stolen on my return home. The photos were on an incomplete film still in the camera. One day I'll take my family back.

They acted out a melodrama in the middle of the castle square with a very impressive sword and archery fight and other bits and pieces before and after.

Either born to entertain or desperate for attention. I wonder how his front teeth are. They certainly would not protrude.

These barriers are weighting about 15 kg, it is impressing. I have not been to a Medieval Fair since many years, and it was not very interesting in my memory, but there was not people like this one.

They probably need to be quite big with plenty going on if they are to keep your interest. We felt this one was well-done.

I have heard about this type of fair, Judy, but have never attended one myself! Pretty and her ex-fiance have been to many when she was still in college in Pennsylvania. She even bought one of the costumes the Rennie* people use when they are performing! (*Renaissance Fair performers.) I have a picture of Pretty wearing her rennie costume, but she won't let me post it here. Sorry!

@JudyEv I am sure the costumes were hot for summer time! Pretty's costume looks very similar to the lady's costume in your photo except Pretty's dress is a deep green with a gold shawl. Pretty doesn't have a hat with her costume, either. She puts her hair up in a bun with small curls around her face.

He grabbed two of the bars, gave a twist and a great heave and got it vertical first, just holding it then took a while to get it positioned where he wanted it.
