I generally make it a point to have a minimum of RM 250. The reason I do so is that there are not many ATMs around my location. I do not want to keep withdrawing money. Cash is usually used to buy groceries or meals. So how much do you generally keep in your wallet or purse ?

250 us dollars would be 12,564 pesos. that's already like one month's salary. i wouldn't walk around with that amount in my bag. do you buy groceries every day?

@hereandthere No.This is the amount I keep so that I can have some money to use in emergency situations like car breakdown. Most of the transactions are done in cash around my area.

@infatuatedbby I live in a town area so most shops do not accept debit or credit cards.

I usually pay with my credit card the groceries. So I usually only have around 20 to 40 dollars with me, just in case I need to hire a cab.

My emergency cash if you are referring to the one hidden in a separate wallet compartment separate from all those that would be used for spending does not go below 40 dollars. Other emergency cash are scattered like in bottle jars, on cabinets, inside piggy banks and figurines designed for hiding things small amount of jewelry with the sole purpose of pawning incase of extreme emergency is also on stand by

It is a must for me to have emergency cash in case worst case scenarios happen. Better be safe than sorry.

I depend too much on my debit card. My husband fusses when I don't have any cash with me.

The problem is that there are still many locations which do not accept a debit card as a mode of payment.

@holdoors Yes, that could be a problem. Here in the US, most places accept debit cards, even McDonalds!

@1creekgirl As I frequent hawker stalls a lot over here, it is a must to have cast otherwise you will starve unless you go to some F&B place which does accept debit cards like McDonald's.

@YrNemo Yup, that's all you can get for $12 these days. So, I could still help you to spend the $12 since you're still having it.

@Jlyn10 I could almost use that $12 to pay for some bananas, carrots, tomatoes, mandarins, oranges which I got before. Alas, the extra delicacies which my niece requested turned out to be too expensive, I had to use a card to pay instead. Still have that $12 with me in the end...

@holdoors Oh, I always draw a certain amount and keep my money at home so I don't need to go to the ATM so often.

I have no issues with self-control on spending but I am trying to avoid going to ATMs to withdraw money if possible. The ATMs are located pretty far from my workplace.

I only keep up around £30 in my purse as I don't like the idea of losing my purse and a lot of money going missing. I was shocked to discover that my niece likes to carry up to £400 although she is a rich kid but I would be worrying all of the time with money like that in my pocket!

Not much. I mean, just the necessary.
