When I saw this image on Pixabay my first thought was, this looks like my little Nina on her last birthday with us. Unfortunately, she passed away about a year and a half ago.. Anyway, my second thought was, I wonder how many people here on MyLot celebrate their fur baby's birthday. We have celebrated all of our fur babies birthdays from the time they came home with us. If we weren't sure when their birthday was we gave them one. We would bake a big doggy biscuit for them and their friends and give the birthday dog a gift. Some people may think that this is a silly thing to do but the way we thought about it is this, They are a part of the family and they deserve a celebration.

We just tell our cat happy birthday, and give him extra treats.

@HazySue I suppose it is. But celebration to me is way more than that.

I don't do a big celebration, but I like to give my pets a special treat or their favorite can of food on their birthday.

@HazySue They really do. My dogs love getting the rawhide bones and my cats love getting their Fancy Feast food.

How sweet your little Nina must've been! I don't know what my daughter will do with her parakeets next year "around" their first birthday - not sure exactly when it is . Our friend is having a first birthday party for her dog in September - with a bunch of guests, a big deal party!! But the actual birthday was earlier in July . . . I saw on Facebook she got her doggie a bunch of wrapped gifts and even a doggie birthday cake (not really cake, but apparently someone makes these doggie desserts in their area).

There are also recipes online that you can make for their birthday. It's a happy day for them.

@HazySue Maybe I'll try to make some for that birthday party! I noticed they sell some human-dessert looking ones these days at various stores!

That sounds pretty kool but I don't celebrate birthdays, not even my own. However, I do like making them treats at least once a month.

My pup and the kitties love when I get in the mood to cook as I always make something for them as well @HazySue well, almost always, I won't feed them spaghetti or other veggie dishes but when I make chicken, beef or eggs they always get some.

That's wonderful. We usually have one to two dogs at a time so the celebrations are few and far between. They become so excited when they realize they are the guest of honor.

We don't have a pet but I know a friend who really loves to celebrate her dog's birthday. She even bakes a cake for them.

We celebrate our dog babies' birthday too. The only difference I guess is that we don't have dog visitors since my dogs just love to play with each other and do not like outsiders around.

We will have, typically, my sister-in-laws dog, and my nephews dog. They see a lot of each other and love coming over. I'm glad you celebrate your dogs birthdays.

@HazySue Whenever we would sing Happy Birthday, my daughter's chocolate lab would stand at the end of the table, and grin like crazy!:)

I understand what you are saying when there are those that think it is stupid to celebrate an animal's birthday. I beg to defer. The animal is our pet and either our family or part of our family. People celebrate their children's birthdays why not celebrate your furry one's birthday. I remember when I had my dog and celebrated her 5th birthday and had a little party with a friend and her and I think my cat was with us then. She was not allowed on the couch, but, on that day I let her go on the couch and she just looked at me and thought I was crazy and what was I doing giving her mixed messages. I can see her thinking that. This year my Sophie turned 3 and wrote a post on facebook and I think here too and we just celebrate quietly. I give her her presents. I bought her a string with a mouse and she loves it and we play with it or she plays with it alone.

@HazySue Thank you so much Susan and I agree that why not celebrate their birthdays. They were born too and have a day to remember them by.
