Selling online: Is this something that works well for you?

Many of us sell items online and do well while others don't find that it works for them. While some use online yard sales, others prefer eBay. The key seems to be selling what people want if you are going to make money selling online. Is that an understatement? Some have tons of items they would love to sell online or elsewhere, but if it is not what people are looking for, no money is going to change hands. Do you enjoy selling items online?

What matters is pictures and descriptions haha the people who do not last long with selling stuff online are people who normally have not so great looking pictures so it makes their items not look real. I am trying to get a hang of that because I am going to be selling stuff online and it seems like so much fun, I just have to get good pictures!

@DesirousDreamer I agree with you that it is fun. It was a good experience for me even though I only managed to sell one thing. Hopefully I will have better luck soon with the other stuff that I posted.

I've never sold online. My sister sells on eBay and does well. The only time I tried I didn't sell a thing.

@PatZAnthony She sells lots of pictures out of magazines for one thing. I don't know why anyone would buy them.

I haven't really tried online selling. When I have a sale going on I do post it on craigslist.

@PatZAnthony I need to learn more about ebay and use it. My son loves Western Slope places that he finds on Facebook.

I sell things online, I think the main factor is price cause with the internet there would always be somebody looking no matter if an item does not seem to be saleable " one man's junk is another man's treasure" Main problem is some people sell as if they do not want to part with their item. Sourcing is also important, getting it direct with no middle men as much as possible, if it's a second hand item that you already used and enjoyed then sell it less than what others with a similar items are selling. The thing that would really make you sell are repeat customers who were satisfied and would keep coming back and feel they got items from you at a fair and reasonable price vis a vis the quality.

I live in a too little country, there is not a high demand for used items and sending outside Switzerland it's a problem, for the high costs and the Custom fees.

Yes, the high cost of shipping and more can make it impossible to make money on some of the things we have here too @LadyDuck

@PatZAnthony I have tried, but every time someone is interested is from outside Switzerland and I should fill the custom forms and pay the custom... you earn nothing.

The last time I sold anything online was during my divorce, I sold nearly everything of value that I had to pay my attorney. It would have been fun if not for the circumstances. I'm glad I had that experience. Now I know how to sell online if I want to but I no longer accumulate things. I enjoyed watching the bidding on eBay keep changing and the price keep going up.

The eBay bidding can be interesting @dragaon54u Some other sites we use, there is no bidding, just a set price.

I've never sold anything on ebay, nor bought anything off of it either. We have a site here in Canada that is free to post on, kijiji, and I've posted lots of items and sold them on there. I have posted things and given them for free also, this is a great way to recycle and saves items from going to the landfill when they still have lots of life left in them.

I have a few items listed on Ebay but I never expect to make a lot of money. When things sell it's usually just a little extra cash for the month.

That little extra cash is better than not selling the items we would guess @Marilynda1225 This is not something we would do for a living.

Use to do yard sales and spend all day with few sales. Not enough money for the time and effort Now I put items on Craig's List. I sell stuff, it doesn't take much time to post something and my time is better spent.

I never tried selling something online, I agree with you though, even though we have so many things we can sell, if we don't get the buyer it is disappointing

I don't really enjoy it, but it is something I need to do. Yo have to put up with a lot of nonsense it seems. I have sold quite a few things through some selling apsp to mostly local people.
