I Wonder If Americans Know Where "No Worries" Comes From

It came from Australia and listen to my logic before calling me smug. I can already hear we say no worries also and have always. Speaking of places like Canada or something.
Here is my logic. I have never heard any American say "no worries." More like what the hell are you doing, get out of here, you screwing it up. We got deployed to Australia in 96 or 97.
Had Australian contractors help us set up the foundation for our camp. We screw a lot of crap up and they were so patient with us and say "No worries." I was 20 and thought, hmm, that is different. So polite. I think all of us Marines were in agreement.
Sounded pretty damn cool to us and we returned to Japan and then the US saying "no worries." When someone screwed something up of course. I still hear people I never met here in America say "No worries" I am telling you, no one here used to say that. Pretty cool how culture works. Now am I being smug? Not sure if that is totally true, but I bet it kind of is.

Nice back story on the term. I've never really" worried" about where the term came from. I just simply say it and move on! Lol

Nice story...I should learn that Aussie attitude. It can relieve stress and pressure to you and the one who made the mistake.
Thanks for sharing.

Always... Blame and complained about other people's mistake. Instead of pointing out, the best thisng is just to relax and help. No worries.. that's gonna be my phrase of the day...

such phrases become universal when spoken in moves and on TV - No Worries probably spread thanks to Crocodile Dundee

i have always liked 'no worries' over no problem/not a problem/no problemo and have always known they were an aussie expression. so you were deployed to japan first?

Yeah I guess I was, pretty funny thinking of it that way. Japan is supposed to be mandatory for every Marine, but knew many who escaped that fate. Their loss, awesome place.
I think my unit just hated me and wanted me out of their hair. One day just out of no where. You are going to Australia. That was that, usually get some kind of heads up, but guess they did not hate me to bad. Much worse places they could have sent me, like Turkey like my one roommate, but he said it was fun. Always what you make of it.
