Almost Here, Almost Here - Yesterday's outdoor temperature was right close to 100 degrees, Fahrenheit. Summertime is like that, and, after all, this being just after the end of July and into the first part of August, it is still summertime. But autumn is right at hand. How can we tell that autumn is almost here? Just look around. The grasses are drying. The apples and the pears are ripening as are many of the other fruits and vegetables in the garden. Reds and yellows are beginning to show where, just the other day, everything was green and growing bigger and bigger. Some of summer's nestlings are learning how to fly, and the mama and poppa birds are thinking that it is close onto time to head to places where snow, ice, and cold winds will be missing. As I sat on the front porch, I was reminded of such things. An autumn leaf fell from the tree in our front yard. Life had not yet fully departed that fallen leaf. I understood this even though that leaf lay there on the porch floor, brown and autumn-looking. It told me, as loudly as an autumn leaf can tell it - "Autumn is almost here. It is almost here." In your neck of the woods autumn is almost there, where in mine spring is about to spring. We are 180 degrees around you. Enjoy the drying of burnt leaves and I will enjoy the springing of new flowers. Well I guess this isn't all that new to me because I have flowers spring up all the time. .
