Former Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter Don Baylor passed away on Monday in his hometown of Austin Texas due to cancer. Baylor was 68 years of age. Baylor played Major League Baseball for the Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, California Angels, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics. Baylor was the first manager of the expansion Colorado Rockies in 1993. Baylor ended his playing career playing in three straight World Series from 1986-1988 winning one World Series ring with the Minnesota Twins in 1987. Baylor filled the shoes of former Baltimore Orioles outfielder Frank Robinson in 1972 when Robinson was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers to make room for Baylor in the outfield. Baylor was the American League Most Valuable Player in the 1979 Major League Baseball season as a member of the California Angels who won the American League West Division title. Baylor will be remembered as a tough player and a gentleman on and off the field. May he rest in peace and thanks for the memories.

Someone who was hit by pitches over 250 times is some tough player. A power hitter who crowded the plate and was fearless. Had a great year in 1979 winning the AL MVP.

I was shocked when ESPN this morning reported the sad news of one of the best baseball players and coaches due to cancer. I admire the work of Don Baylor playing the game with class and dignity.

@Deepizzaguy - He was one of my favorite players when I was a kid. And I loved him as the Rockies first manager.
