A couple of days ago, I finished a music series about 80's heavy metal. Well, if you went to see a hair metal or hard rock band during that decade, you weren't getting out of the arena without hearing a power ballad or two. We are at #9 in my Favorite Power Ballads series: "Close My Eyes Forever" by Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne.
From her 1988 album, Lita, "Close My Eyes Forever" is a duet with Ozzy Osbourne that former Runaways guitarist Ford calls "a mistake" (and not in an "I made a mistake" kind of way.) Ford was partying all day in a recording studio with both Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne (who was Ford's manager at the time.) After Sharon left, Ford and Ozzy started jamming and singing together, and the song was the result (I know. Ozzy can barely function as it is. How can he write and remember lyrics?)
And it was a hit, reaching #8 on the BIllboard Hot 100 (it's Ozzy's only foray into the Top 10 as a solo artist,) and stalled at #47 in the UK, although it hit Top 20 in both Sweden and New Zealand.
Holding up a cigarette lighter during a power ballad was such a cliche, but yeah, this one will get your Zippo in the air in a heartbeat.

"Ozzy" and "power ballad" is about as strange a combination as "Ozzy" and "dance song," although he did that, too (with Kim Basinger on a Was (Not Was) album).

Love this one, as I have thought both Lita and Ozzy was the unlikely duo... I love the beautiful guitar solo. My cousin actually gave me a duplicate cassette single of this, I wonder where I put it.,,

I am familiar with Lita Ford as a Runaway and she was always appearing at clubs here but never knew she had a top 10 hit. She wasn't KROQ fare.
