Do anxious people make you anxious?

I tend to be a pretty "chill" person. Things don't bother me much that might bother others, like angry customers at a store, Taco Bell workers that can't count to 100, and poopy diapers. The only thing that makes me want to take out my flamethrower is texting drivers. Well, that and people who talk but don't listen. And people with entitlement issues. And people who can't lose an argument gracefully. And bossy coworkers. But other than that, hardly anything. Anyway, today, I got an email from our band "leader," the lady who sings Sugar Moon, which some of you have heard. She wants us to commit to gig dates she has scheduled out to a year from now. She has an anxiety disorder and compensates by being a control freak. I don't even know exactly what I'm doing next week, much less a year from to now! I have unpredictable clients, sick relatives, vacation time I need to use, etc. Upon reading her email, my mood went from chill/productive to slightly anxious. I'll still get stuff done (already printed out the syllabus for my class and turned in six progress notes), but after reading her email, I'm feeling grumpy and slightly anxious, rather than chill and focused. Do anxious and/or controlling people make you anxious? Or can you be "Zen cat" all the time? I'm working on it, but I'm not there yet

I'm pretty grumpy about it. I don't mind anxious others if I don't wind up getting "controlled."

@TheHorse .. Is it legal to be doing that? I mean getting dates fixed in advance and then if something urgent crops up, what? She is not really paying you all some retirement benefits, is she?

I have depression and schizophrenia, so when it strikes, I will get anxious. I do get anxious when people with anxiety speak to me or do something with me. So it is double anxiety for me.

Understood. Do you do better around people who are calm, clear, and supportive?

Try dealing with a bi-polar person with a learning disability. Anxious people make me anxious. I am stress and anxiety ridden at that point. A "zen cat" not very often. Severe depression with anxiety attacks is my diagnosis.

@TheHorse .......No, it isn't. Not controlled. More over run.

That wouldn't be fun. But it would only bother me if I felt *I* were being controlled.

No, anxious people don't bother me. I have my own agenda now and live a carefree existence.

What is your GD had an anxious coach, who put too much pressure on her? Then she'd be involved in YOUR (and you GD's) happiness!

I only get anxious when I have to learn new tech but I wont let it show. I am pretty much a chill person too. Now why not make a schedule of the playing dates? I used to book this one band dates all the time so they could get those dates off to play. To me its just part of business.

It's OK to plan dates, and ask band mates which ones they can make and can't. Or still are unsure of so potential back-ups can be contacted. It's more the way she does it that bothers me.

Just not engaging with someone trying to control you is a good way to go.

I never had the experience but it happens to me I might get anxious myself or paranoid. Because I don't know how to deal with that kind of person.

I like feeling like there's give and take--not like I'm being controlled.

Yes, anxious people make me anxious and sick. They easily transmit their disorder, better keep them away if possible.

@TheHorse Some are anxious, but you can control them, some drive you crazy.

I try to be supportive, and some anxious friends have it under control. One friend with an anxiety disorder has to drive when we go places together. That's OK with me. He's a good enough driver.

@LadyDuck Do you mean if you can't? If I can retain my sense of control, and not be controlled by them, then I'm OK.

I have adult children who are very nervous, loud and abnocious at times. Like last Friday we got together for a few hours and they were being nervous, loud and edgy. But I was prepared by praying beforehand and reading God's Word. I was able to stay calm. But I can take only so much. I have other family members who are like my son and daughter and I just have to be prepared to be around them. Lots of drama and energy. So you're not alone my friend.

Yes, people like that who want to know right now bother me a bit. I don't like planning that far ahead, something always happens.

I try to be "chill" and like to be organized but I would probably get anxious if someone wanted to plan something for me for a year from now. I don't blame you for being anxious after getting that email. Care to share that flamethrower?

My anxiety is off the charts. So yeah, being around someone else with anxiety kind of makes it worse.

Do you feel better right after you cycle? They say that cortisol levels drop right after exercise.

Depends on the heights of anxiousness he or she influences on me!

How she influences is key...if she's totally not listening (she tends to be in her own little world), I can just walk away.

People think I'm a cool cat - but I'm definitely not exactly chill on the inside (ask my Hubby ). Anxious/controlling people can make me anxious though I won't show them that . . . I've learned to make come backs to those kinda people (but it doesn't always work). Yah, making a commitment to dates that far in advance is too difficult for anyone!

Controlling people definitely make me feel nervous as I feel like I can't meet their standards. I tend to be anxious myself but hide it quite well. However, if someone else is anxious around me I try and keep calm to deflect that energy.
9 Aug 17
No, I'm not usually influenced by them.
