Zhen De Shou Slimming Pills - cause of death of my sister

I have made a blog about this before but that website was gone so my blog can't be found anymore. So I would like to share this story again to let people be aware of the bad effects of this Zhen De Shou Slimming Pills. Year 2009 when my sister passed away. She started taking that pill a year ago. She took it for 2 months and I noticed the drastic change. She lost weight. But then there were times that when we talk to her, she couldn't answer properly. She would sometimes answer "I don't know" when the question was very simple. She was spaced out, not herself, like her mind was miles away. I asked her what she took, she told me about that pills so I took it too out of curiosity. I only took it for 3 days as I became very depressed. I couldn't sleep. 4am I was still up crying. My mouth was very dry. I was always thirsty. I did lost weight because I lost my appetite, but I stopped coz I realized that pill was no good so I told my sister to stop taking it and she did stopped. July 2009, we had to rush my sister to the hospital because she kept on vomitting. She was confined on a Monday. The doctor asked her what she took because they found out that her liver was badly damaged already. My sister admitted that she took that pill for 2 days again. Wednesday came, she was transferred to Intensive Care Unit. They put tube on her nose. I was alone with my sister and the doctor told me that my sister might not make it. When I heard that, tears just begun to fall. I did not understand why just for 2 days taking it, it damaged her liver. Doctor said because she had took the pills the previous year, and when she took it again, it might have triggered it. The only way for her to survive is to have liver transplant and our family had discussed about it and I was willing to give my liver for her, but we would have to wait for her condition to stabilize first. Thursday came, we were able to talk to my sister. She was a bit better. When I thought about it, I guess this was just her saying goodbye to us. That night, doctor told my mom that she had to have catheter, another tube down there as her organs not functioning. My mom didn't want to but the doctor said, "If you didn't want to, she will die." With a heavy heart, my mom agreed. It was so painful to see my sister that way as she was only 25 years old and she had tubes on her. Friday came, she was in a coma. She had blood coming out her mouth, as in lots. 2 big bottles of blood. My mom could not take it so she had to go out the room. Saturday came, her blood pressure gone. She only had heartbeat because of the machine. No blood pressure. My mom and dad went home as they organized something because doctor told them that she will passed away after lunch. I was left with my brother. Nurse asked as if we wanted to stop all her medications and the machine that was helping her . I said yes but my brother didn't want to. We argued there. I said "Do you want to see her suffer? 3 doctors already said there is nothing we can do." So I had to call my sister, and my sister called my mom. They both agreed to stop. I have to sign the waiver and this was the hardest thing I ever have to do. My hand was shaking while I was signing it. After few minutes, my sister came. Her heartbeat went to 0 and then went up again. We were all crying. It went 0 twice. At this stage, we knew she was just waiting for my mom and dad. So my sister said, "If you wanted to go, it's okay, we will take care of mom and dad." After she said that, my sister's heartbeat just went --------- 0. She was gone. Gone too soon. I miss her terribly.

Oh, I am so sorry. Thank you for sharing this with us. I know sharing your story will make a lot of us think twice before taking a diet pill, especially that kind.

@angelmels Wow. You would think they would have been sued so badly they'd be forced to go out of business.

You remind of 'Generics' paracetamol I took once and thought it was the end of me that's why I prefer taking natural remedies as much as possible. I gain/lose weight easily. I just eat rice 3x a day and more frozen foods if I want to gain weight and only 1 cup of rice once a day without cold/sweet drinks if I want to lose weight.

I hope so too. Others are not aware and still be taking it, and they will only feel the bad effect after 1-3 years, just depends on their bodies react

@TiarasOceanView Thanks for suggesting this post here. My deepest condolences here and I am sorry for your loss. I am afraid to disclose here that your sister is not the only victim of these altered supplements. I learned that there were similar incidents in some parts of SE Asia where such slimming supplements were circulated. I hate to say this but despite the majority population being health conscious and wary there is not enough emphasis on being how to be safe. I felt that anything that we ingest into our bodies should be thoroughly researched and searched. We should at least check with our family or local doctors as to any listed cases of bad effects or ban alerts on the supplement we are about to ingest. Lastly I felt the food safety authorities should be more stringent with what is being introduced into the public and on the shelves of the local pharmacy or health supplement stores.

Your story is heartbreaking! It is so terrible when young girls waste their life doing what a reasonable diet and exercise can do in longer time

Yes as there are still young girls taking it. It may not be the same bad effect to all but there is definitely something wrong with that pill.
