Finally achieving a long term goal!

Two days ago, I reserved a little space in my second flea market/antique store. It's been almost a year since I rented my first one. About ten years ago, I visited a local flea market for the first time. It was crowded and not all that clean. I saw a lot of really cool stuff there though and met a few nice people. I thought "I have a lot of great old items I'd like to sell!" (I had accumulated much of my own and inherited most of my mother's and grandmother's stuff ten years before that). Even though the desire was there to have my own booth, I didn't have the time/opportunity then. Since that flea market day, we have inherited my mother-in-law's entire household. So, several more flea markets have opened here in the pat 10 years and they are really nice stores. They're popular here too! I've been in learning mode for a year. Most months I break even financially. But I am truly enjoying doing my research on vintage items, learning what sells best, and meeting like-minded folks! It feels good to be achieving something I've wanted to try for such a long time! I'm grateful for the opportunity to do it! Now hopefully I can start actually making a profit.

A friend of mine had a stall for a short time a few years ago, but gave it up because the place was damp and she got pneumonia. She also inadvertently sold the answering machine that I lent her. How it ended up there, she couldn't tell me.

Thanks for sharing @BarbaraPrz. Sounds like your friend got a bit carried away when she was packing her merchandise boxes at home and didn't pay attention!

I wish you success. I had a booth at a Flea Market for several years and did VERY WELL, selling mostly jewelry. Everything was going well and I would have stayed there but we had a terrible snow storm and the roof of the building caved in. I was able to get all my merchandise out safely, but it never reopened. I tried two other Flea Markets in different locations but never did as well, so I finally gave it up.

Thank you @IreneVincent. One of my girlfriends has several booths in the area and has been doing this for a few years. (She mentors me too) She buys a lot of jewelry at yard sales and she inherited some too. Jewelry has been her best selling thing overall. The roof caved in? Wow! I hope no one was injured!

@BloggerDi No, the Flea Market was closed. It was a week day and the Flea Market was only open on the week-ends. I did home parties with jewelry for 38 years and I sold my sample jewelry at the end of each season, once it was out of the catalog. I still have 8 cases of jewelry. I sometimes take it to an Expoland yard sale in Fishersville, Virginia I've sold quite a bit there but I still have a lot. I also have sales at my house sometimes and I contact all my past customers. They love to come and I sell a lot.

I wish you the best of luck! We used to do that and we loved it. Unfortunately things slowed down a bit for a while so we stopped. I miss it though.

Thanks @responsiveme. I'm continuing to learn how to do research on the internet about my items, so I know exactly what they are, how old, and how to price them. My profits are slowly getting better over time.
