Favorite Power Ballads #5 - "Silent Lucidity"

In the 1980's, any metal and hard rock band worth their salt had a power ballad in their catalog. I am celebrating the power ballad with my Favorite Power Ballads series. We are at #5 in the countdown, with a band that is making it's first appearance in one of my music series': "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche. The hair metal guys perfected the power ballad. They didn't have a monopoly on them, however. Queensryche, which is far from hair metal, hit big with the single. How big? "Silent Lucidity" reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on that magazine's Mainstream Rock chart, and #18 in the UK. It remains the band's highest chart performance. Queensryche is a favorite band, but I'll admit that I lost interest after vocalist Geoff Tate was fired. Now, I only listen to the Tate era. "Silent Lucidity" is a gorgeous example of just how good that version of the band could be. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

That seems a little out of the ordinary for the "power ballads" at first with some quite nice vocals, but then the guitars come screaming in and you say, "yep, power ballad."

I know. Queensryche isn't exactly a power ballad band. Neither was my #1 guy.
