Mom gave me a Nikon EM 35mm camera in 1981 and boy did I go bonkers taking pictures. I became a menace and then when no one wanted me to photograph them I gave up trying to shoot people. This shot was taken in the late 1980s, I lived in a rented house at the time and was constantly taking pictures of my pets, flowers and anything else that struck me. I remember this mantis, she simply stared at me without running away I was intrigued because she didn't look like any other mantis I had ever seen before and I wondered what she was going to dine on. She wasn't very big like the other mantis I've seen but she seemed to enjoy having her picture taken. Have you seen any like this one?

It looks like a praying mantis to me and that kind of mantis is very common here. I saw them a lot when I was a kid.

I usually see the other variety of mantis, this one was much smaller but it was very brave and let me get close enough to get a shot.

@rebelann Yeah the praying mantis is small and yes they are very brave. They just won't budge when they sense something is approaching

I have seen a few praying mantis. They don't scare off and freeze like a statue waiting for prey.

They are amazing predators. It's been a while since I've seen one
