So this morning, while we were out with the dogs..and a bunch of cats.. My roommate yells to me "a finch just landed in the garden!" Of course I don't have my camera.. So I run in the house. Half expecting it to be gone by the time I come out.. But it is still there perched on the overgrown Radicchio plants eating seeds.. I got a few good pics.. Here is an American Goldfinch. You don't see too many of these around.. Please do not use the photo. I post these for sale myself. ;)

I've never seen one around here, it's probably way too hot and dry for them. Really good shot.

@rebelann It does take some patience... I agree. but with this little guy. he literally flew in the yard and I ran for my camera. and was very lucky he didn't fly off in that time.. and he stayed long enough for me to get a few shots.

Thank you.. I saw them very rarely around here ... but it turns out I was in the wrong place... I found a place where there are TONS of them.. but they are quick and tiny so the hard part is finding where they are feeding and just sitting there with the camera. But they do have a distinctive call and i listen for them to find them.

@silvermist Good. I am not big on snakes or spiders well most insects... and come to think of it. I wouldn't want to handle many reptiles either.. I will appreciate them from afar.. or like from my couch in front of my TV. lol

@LadyDuck oh , very interesting. but what I just learned from JJ is that these yellow birds change color after the summer and get a winter color and it is kind of green. So maybe you could be something that changes in the fall..

What a beauty. Usually when I want to take a picture of something I find interesting I go get my phone but since I turn it off it takes awhile to turn it back on and then the subject is gone.

ah, yea, that could be a problem.. I leave my phone on always.. but my go to for photos is my camera which I bring with me everywhere.. except in this case.. not in the backyard with me at that time so I was surprised the bird stuck around long enough for me to run back in the house and grab it..

@Hannihar I bought a camera bag that looks more like a laptop bag or purse and I carry that with me everywhere- so I always have it at arms length

@minx267 You are right. That was a surprise. Usually they are gone by the time I get my phone all set up and the camera ready to take a picture. I have a good camera too, but, it is too hard to carry it with me and my smartphone camera is also good.
