I'm terrified. I'm angry. Livid. Cold. I've never owned a gun. We have one now, and I intend to grab a second and build up enough to carry. I'll be going to the ranges, learning how to use them properly. I'm sewing up small harnesses for my pretty little knife collection, and ruining what makes them pretty as I sharpen them. Because this country is at war. Not with others, as we are so used to, but internally. Because I intend to fight hate with love. The love of a mother. I intend to fight and protect with the rage of the parent protecting their child from intruders. I see us walking into the fires, and if we must burn I'm going to do everything in my power to ensure the other side is livable for my niece. This world feels like a comic book, with the Nazis of the past, having hidden away to grow and prepare, come bursting forth to try again to ruin the world. They've infiltrated the government and law enforcement, and they're showing up in force. We've felt the tremors of their arrival for years, louder and louder until they stormed out into the light. And I'm not Batman, or Superman, or Wonder Woman. I'm not strong or brilliant or wealthy. I'm not even noble. But I'm sure as hell not letting these people slaughter entire races, entire religions. The war has already begun. You can fight, or you can hide, but you're still caught in the war. It's time to change things. Drastically.
