One more for the road...oh, wait, that's a Boz Scaggs song. And he's not featured in this countdown of my favorite songs dealing with school, in honor of school being back in session throughout most of the country. Here's the next song on the list.
#6: (Remember the Days of the) Old Schoolyard - Cat Stevens
This was one of Cat Stevens' last hits. In 1977 it stuck out like a sore thumb because of the use of synthesizers, but that was a good thing. It also featured a duet vocalist, Elkie Brooks, on the song.
The song speaks of innocence of childhood ("when we had simplicity") and first-grade romance before adulthood complicated all of those things.
Not exactly what you expect from a folkie like Cat Stevens, but that's part of its appeal.

Not familiar with this song at all. He never really was my speed and by 1977, I was into the burgeoning punk new wave world.
