Generally they are truthful. Child is very observant. Other children, neighbours, family members -- if they tell a lie and if child comes to know of it, eventhough child thinks telling lie is bad, it might tend to pick it up -- phsychologically to defend itself in the beginning, for fun and later on considers it as one of the practices.
