Well, while there are some good and nice audience sitting around, my mom always starts her chatty conversations with a tired old story.
I have heard about it for over a hundred times(truly!). Apparently, I grew bored with the story. It always the same old story about the nighty hoax which happened to my dad. And my mom saw through the trick and save my dad.
Seriouly, I think it hurts my dad's feeling. So each time when my mom are going to throw it out, I usually stop her, but my mom would roll her eyes to me.
So whether there are good ways to stop these old chestnut coming out politely?
What's your same old stories?

I don't think it is the same but I regret sometimes that I didn't ask my mother more about stories she told me about her past and the past of my country, to know more about the history of my country from someone who lived it. but in your case it is something else, so I don't know what to say. maybe try to put another old story on the table.

My mom's the same and she could seriously go on for like the whole day. I don't try to stop her though because she's really strict and will not tolerate me if I try to stop her while talking.
Hmm but maybe you can try to open a new topic unrelated to what she's talking about.

Thank goodness I don't live so near to my mom that I have to listen to the same old story. But then again, my mom also doesn't repeat her stories. She always has new stories to tell. What I can't stand about her is she can get really preachy. I will just listen without interruption and remain silent and she will stop eventually.
Perhaps you can just pretend to listen. Don't interrupt her and don't respond to the story and if there are other people in the room, start a topic that is totally unrelated to her story. Use every opportunity when she pauses to talk to the other people about something else. Perhaps, eventually she'll get the hint.

You can be honest to your mom that the story she's been sharing has been shared many times but not confrontational.

We have been married so long we tell the same old stories over and over. If you work out a solution, let me know.

Up to now, there is no a solution. Maybe let my mom focuses on another much more interesting thing or something she cares a lot. Then the new topics will on it.
