My Amazon Associates Experience

One of the interesting things about Amazon Associates is that people don't have to buy the particular item you link to for you to generate revenue. They can get anything, within the 24 hour period of clicking on your link, and you still earn.
For example: You can feature a link to a book but they end up buying diapers instead. You will earn from that sale even though it's not what your link was for. I've had many sales like that, though diapers were not one of them.
Since joining Amazon Associates some years ago, I had 32 sales so far but made only around twelve bucks from them. You'd think I'd have made a lot more money than that. But products purchased weren't high in price, and two even cost a penny, which equates to zero in earnings.
In comparison, I was able to earn more through the HubPages Amazon Program (close to $36) and with only 23 sales. They do pay a higher percentage for a sale than what I get with my own Amazon Associates account though, so maybe that's why. Still, goes to show that getting more sales doesn't necessarily mean more earnings. The price of the product purchased is important as well. You can make more with one product than with a few.
While I am not happy with the number of sales and the earnings amount so far in either of these accounts, I was able to sell and make something rather than nothing; and something is always better than a big fat zero.

There are many that are way more successful than me. Wish I knew how to make that happen for me.

Wow I didn't know this. I thought they had to buy the particular item that you posted.
