How much trouble can a boss get in for bribing an employee?

I know an employee who had a stressful episode towards one of the managers. Instead of the manager getting angry at her, she was very calm towards her. The employee refused to talk to her. The manager was like 'I'll get you whatever you want if you calm down. Try not to stress out. It's okay.' The employee felt like she had no choice but to accept. So, the manager got her a drink, and all was fine...in that moment. Do you think this was a bribe?

Maybe it was, or it was just an act of kindness. She seems like the generous type. She's a cool boss, though. The employee is also a sweetheart. I just didn't know what to think about it.

What the heck happened that made her so distress in the first place? Don't you think she might use it as a form of abusing the manager if the manager gives in like that.

I think it could've been because this manager was a bit nasty. She basically had enough, so the manager could've felt bad.
