I have heard in the news over the radio that teenage pregnancy has becoming in alarming stage. I heard that there are 1,400 cases of teenage pregnancy in 2016 in our province. In a local government of less than 1 million population it is alarming that teenagers spike to this numbers.
So the provincial government through the youth council is campaigning against pregnancies have been launched to create awareness into this program.
Its not usual now in our place that teenagers, from 13 to 19 years, get pregnant and some of them out of wedlock.
The program is laudable and should be carried in other places.

I think the problem with our country is the refusal to talk about this openly and in public. Teenagers don't understand how heavy the consequences are and I also don't think Filipino parents are open to discussing this with their children. The statistics that you mentioned is a testament to this. Educate people and they will more likely be able to make better decisions.

i recall a young lady we had as a client in obstetric ward. she was merely 13 years young and the father of her infant was 14 years young. it was like the father was only sent to the store to buy a bottle of cooking oil and he impregnated the girl./ hahaha!

if there's anyone who knows this reality the most, it's those in the medical profession. they can hide at home and avoid prenatal checks, but when it comes to giving birth and there's no midwife, they cannot avoid going to the hospital.

@hereandthere that is true. we should have the clinical eye in to assessing a person as to what illness she may have. for a woman who is assumed to be pregnant, we can know if she is with the double patpitations in her neck.

@infatuatedbby yes, I'm open minded but somehow not that open, I can talk it with my sons but not to my daughters, but I can bend about boyfriend or for some educational purposes.

The US teen pregnancy amount has supposedly gone down. Either way, teen pregnancies will still happen so nothing can be done.

@ilocosboy will never happen. Not in this lifetime. Its also not the worse thing that can happen to a teen or family

@Courtlynn I also believe it will never go down to zero, but making it in just 3 digits would be a big accomplishment.

Most teenage pregnancies are from the lack of supervision due to only one parent in the home and they have to work to make a living.

there was no abuse, actually, for these young women, maybe what they need is education and guidance.
