Childhood Memory - School Years

I was never huge on school, but I did enjoy going as a kid because I loved all the time with my friends, recess, and having the same great teacher and classmates for all my classes all year (in elementary school). But, once middle school came, we had a few different teachers each year.. same with high school, along with different classmates, and I didn't like that. I also didn't like how snobby everyone got once middle, and especially high school came. Anyways.. My favorite grade was probably K - 1st or 2nd. Just because there was no cares in the world at those ages, and everybody seemed to be a friend. And my least favorite grade would be 9th or 10th. As teens are terrible, and high school is full of rumors and drama. My favorite teacher was.. well, most of them. But my 1st grade, 5th grade and 7th grade (homeroom and science) teacher would be in the top 3. And my least favorite teacher was my 7th grade Language Arts teacher. She was rude to everybody, and didn't care if someone had a fear of reading out loud or anything. My favorite subject was math, but I even had trouble there. And my least favorite was probably History. My favorite class in general? Computer class. Its where I became a wiz with computers and even phones (Happy / proud moment!) But my least favorite was French and Spanish class. Which I thankfully got out of by doing Title One (extra help class for L.A, Math, etc - plus when we got done going over what we learned that day, we got time to do our homework instead of waiting til after school at home ). Something I learned was in 6th grade, and then again in 10th grade.. and that was that I stink at art - whether sketching, painting, molding, or pottery. And, I left school when my 10th year ended (June 2008). As I was pregnant and due, and going to do GED classes so I could be with my daughter more than if I stayed in high school, as she was my responsibility not others. But due to what happened with my daughter, I stopped going to my GED classes, and never got my GED until I did them online in December 2012. -- How were your school years? Any favorite or least favorite teachers or classes? Etc

You remember a lot about school Courtney! I went to school all over the place (except for elementary all 8 yrs the same with the nuns in Catholic School). I barely went to high school here as I was always taking off with friends lol. But I did live overseas in England and went to school there to college in Oxford as well. I took English Lit and Art. Those were my best. I did a little bit of business school typing, accounting, etc. Then I went to hairdressing school later on.

Still sounds like you should be proud. you did right by your child and still got the GED. my favorite was spelling, english, and such but school was a lot different back then. much easier. even though i too was terrible at math. i had one math teacher in 4th grade that i hated because he seemed to choose me to pick on to the point of even making fun of me and looking straight at me saying i had that "dumb" look on my face. today a person could probably sue over that. most teachers i had i liked and they seemed to like me. 9th grade was great cause my spanish teacher took a special interest in me and helped me a lot even though all the boys were crazy about her cause she was beautiful. lol. one male teacher was also the best looking and most fun guy we could have. i used to imagine they would get together but don't know if they ever did as i dropped out to elope with my first husband. sorry this is way too long

I miss school life. I'm 35 now and finished school when I'm 20. My favorite is elementary years because life is easy and fun lots of playing. Highschool is quite hard for me as I am in a private school. College is easy for me because it's just public school or university. I miss having classmates and being busy with school requirements

My grade school years were all right. I had lots of friends. In grade 7 I struggled, that was after my brain tumor was removed. I looked different then everyone else did because they had to shave my head. Kids can be mean, and I remember it well, but I made up my mind then that I wouldn't act like that since I knew how it made someone feel. High school for me was like you describe it, drama and rumours. But I had fun also, I started and was basically a tomboy, but matured and became a young lady during those years. I still have 2 wonderful friends from my school years, one of them I met in grade 7.

@Juliaacv That's so cool! I wish I could have a friend for that long, but I seem to pick bad friends, mostly.

Sorry you had to deal with mean kids too. Don't know why kids, or even adults - have to act that way. Glad you still have a few friends from school!

I loved kindergarten. My teacher was awesome (I actually worked with her later as an adult,) I had a ton of friends, and life was just simple and easy. Then came first grade...and I started being bullied by some of the other kids. I wasn't popular anymore, I became really shy and anxious and got migraines a lot. My teacher was mean and I didn't have many friends. Second grade was somewhat better, I had my best friend in my class every year from second to fifth grade, which made school bearable. Although around fifth grade I stopped caring too much about school and spent my days daydreaming, which often got me in trouble. Middle school was hell. My best friend chose to go to a different school and my other closest friend ditched me. I was all alone in a new world and I hated it. I was bullied relentlessly by various groups of "mean girls," was seriously depressed, and often thought of killing myself. The only thing that got me through school was going home and listening to music, losing myself in books, and the stories that I came up with. High school was okay the first year, although I didn't especially enjoy it. I had a new group of friends by then and they made school bearable. But by the end of my freshman year they all started acting weird and I knew I wasn't going to come back. The Columbine Shooting and all the copycats happened that spring, so I became afraid to go to school, especially with rumors that there was a hit list going around. I ended up coming back for a few weeks my sophomore year but then I left school to go on independent studies. Which meant I got to stay home, met with a teacher at the alternative school once a week to take tests and turn in my work packet, and focus on fun things like creative writing and art. I had the same teacher for the rest of "high school," and she was the one who encouraged me to keep writing and drawing. If not for her, I may have never developed my artistic abilities. Of course, sometimes I wonder if staying home for high school made me the way I am today -- I don't want to work outside the home, and I hate dealing with people. I have bad social anxiety. But...maybe the jerks at school are the ones who made me that way. Overall I don't regret leaving public school, although I occasionally regret missing out on the typical high school experiences...which I probably would have been excluded from, anyway.

@Courtlynn I sometimes regret missing prom (usually when I'm watching some teen movie and they go to prom, haha) but even if I'd stayed in public school, I probably wouldn't have gone anyway. I don't blame you for not going back after what you went through. I'm sorry you were also bullied. Kids are jerks, especially once they get older. I wish I had kept the same friends all through school. My best friend made me believe she had to go to a different school because it was closer to her house, but later admitted she could have gone to the same middle school that I went to but chose to go to a different one so she could have a "fresh start" away from me. Because she was only bullied because of me -- the popular kids accepted her when I wasn't around. I was really betrayed when I discovered that. I no longer keep in touch with her. We're friends on Facebook but we don't comment on each other's stuff or ever message each other. I got tired of being the only one maintaining the friendship so I just stopped. I guess some friendships are just meant to be left in the past.

@Srbageldog i dont regret it as its what was right for me, but do feel a bit sad when kids are getting ready for it in the neighborhood or see a movie with prom involved. Yes, teens are terrible. I hope my daughter has better luck in school and especially with friends than I did. What a friend

Only thing I missed at high school was prom, but I've learned to accept that as i chose to leave school to care dor my child and then was too messed up from losing her to go back after. I was also bullied throughout the years, more so middle school and up. But always had the same friends from k to 10th grade.. some even after.

My elementary years were not so good as I was sickly. I enjoyed my high school years and not sick anymore. My favorite subjects were literature, English, Tagalog and History. I hate Chemistry and Physic.

I remember when I was in the 5th grade my teacher took me to see her daughter perform in a concert, that's was so awesome. I had never did anything with my teachers before outside of school. Her daughter played the piano and she was really good. I miss my fifth grade teacher she really cared for me genuinely.
