I Did Not Do It - Temptation is never too far distant. but when you get to be of an age, temptation becomes of a lesser bother. That is; a person is able to know, scarcely without a second thought, "No. You don't do that." So it was as I made the day's mobility scooter ride on my favorite trail through the area that I found my friends, the maintenance guys busy at work, re-painting "my" liitle red bridge to somewhere. Brand new, bright red paint. That was no big deal for the little electric scooter. A sharp right turn, over the grass, just a little way along the main road, back over the grass and onto the trail once again. Nothing to it. Later on, after the men had gone elsewhere on the round of chores, the bridge to somewhere now shining with its new coat of bright red paint, back I came down the path. Once again, over the grass, a short run on the main road, and once more, over the grass so as to not mess up the new paint job on my way back to the trail. I can remember the time when I probably would have gone right through all of that nice new red paint, but that was so long ago that the number of years between now and then is a number that I would prefer to not remember. The ability to roll over fresh red paint is still there. It is the desire that has gone away. Now that I think about that for a little bit, I realize that lots of fun stuff disappears as the calendar pages add up - but maybe I just thought it was fun stuff. Yes. That is what it was - just some "thought fun" for me and not for anyone else. Anyway, my little red bridge to somewhere is out there on the trail through the forest, bright, bright red with new paint and without scooter tracks to spoil its shiny new look. Maybe we will get to see the little red bridge now that it is all shiny and new. Yes you would have gotten a severe talking to trapsing into the house with red pain on your wheels lol

@TiarasOceanView - I will be waiting several more days to insure two things - (1) No red paint on the tires and tire tracks on the bridge, and (2) Our nice new hurricane to go away by this coming Sunday or so. -Gus-

@TiarasOceanView - The hurricane's landfall is predicted to be to the east of the city, Corpus Christi, Texas, but the storm and its predicted 12 inches of rain and strong winds will affect most of the Texas Gulf coast. Where we live is about 50 miles or so northwest of Houston, Texas. Thus we will get lots of wind and rain because we are not all that far from the coast - probably 100 miles. There will be flooding in Houston and all along the coast, however where we live will not see much flooding even though there will be horrific rain. Our biggest worry are the huge trees, all of which we hope will remain upright. The house and the area is full of huge pine trees and oak trees. By the way, as I note on my "profile" lines here on MyLot, I do not live in "Goodfellow" Texas (actually it is a USAF base) but I AM one. -Gus-

Gus, I understand what you are saying. I grew up riding a bike and rode it many places and even brought it to Israel, but, gave it away here. When it came time that I thought I wanted a bike again I sat on the bike and froze and thought of if I fell off and could not get it. Yes, as I get older I get less and less of a daredevil and think more about doing things I used to do.

@Hannihar - Ms Hanni - You know something...? I, too, think of riding on a bike again - like "no hands- standing up there on the foot pedals," "pushing the bike into motion, one foot on a pedal, and then jumping aboard." Fun to think about but difficult of doing - if not impossible in my current age and state of body. --- I like my mobility scooter because I do not have to jump up onto it. I sit down onto it. No pedals to work - just hit the controls and "go." I like the controls, for if you take your fingers off of them, the scooter brakes stop the machine then and there. Kinda nifty way of doing things, One time ( in a nice restaurant ) I finished off a big, big beef steak (much to the surprise of the dining room waitress lady. I asked her why she stood behind me and watched as I was eating that steak. She told me that she had never seen anyone eat a whole steak until I came along and did so. Can't do that anymore. Probably enough room in the stomach, but the furniture has evidently all been removed. Happy day to you. -Gus-

@Hannihar - Ms Hanni - About the only chances I take these days is writing a new poem or bending down to tie my shoe. -Gus-

@Ceerios Gus, I find bikes, roller skates and other things quite dangerous these days. I have also had accidents on my mobility scooter but he is a study one. It is going on 6 years next month that I have had him and I love him to bits. He has saved my life. It is hard in the winter with the rain and the wind to drive him though even though I have plastic on. The wind get can so strong that it shakes him while I am inside.

Gee in your old age you're no fun. I don't care how old I get I still love to pull pranks and do things I shouldn't be doing. I more than likely would of run across the brige as long as the paint was dry first.

@poehere - Ms Ann - At my age I am learning that I cannot run away as fast as I could in earlier days. These days I think, "Tracks through that new red paint or tracks that they will put across MY hide... Which would I really prefer?" -Gus-

@poehere - Ms Ann - The paint dried and there are no human footprints on it. Must be that it was fast-drying paint. -Gus-

@Ceerios I guess you are right. The paint is new so why be the first to dirty it. Be the second.
