I am a big fan of Death Note.
Death Note is about a student who comes across a notebook that grants the person the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it, all they need is to picture the face and write the name.
I have watched the anime, read all of the manga, and watched all 3 of the live action Japanese movies. I have not watched the live action tv series that they did in Japan yet. I am a bit behind of everything.
So, i love this series, it is one of the best anime series still. It is so amazing and apparently hollywood thought so too.
I remember way back in probably 2012 they were talking about making an American version of Death Note. It is an easy series to be placed anywhere, so why not? But they stopped production. But someone else came across it and that is why there is a new live action version of Death Note now on Netflix!
It was actually pretty amazing. They may not have held true to the manga or anime as in storyline, but they got the general idea down. They still had most of the character, at least the most important characters down. But they also changed the story a bit with more romance than there was in the anime. But, this is america, we like people kissing and people killing.
I was about to rage when they introduce Ryuk because Nat Wolff who plays Light mispronounced Ryuk's name. I thought we were going to go all The Last Airbender movie when they mispronounced Aang's name wrong. (They said Ahung when it is Aayng) But the love Willem DeFoe who plays Ryuk's voice comes in as Ryuk and corrects Light. Which made me so happy! And also...Willem DeFoe's voice is to die for.
Everything was pretty amazing, a little graphic with the killings, but that is what makes it more fun and more realistic!
So if you like crime related movies, it is only an hour and forty minutes, take your time and introduce yourself to Death Note. It is super amazing and you will kind of understand why anime itself is so amazing. the movie came from Japanese anime! That is so cool!

It was my son who enjoyed the anime first and told me about it. Not really a great fan but I enjoyed the anime a lot.

@DesirousDreamer I will have to ask my son about that. He never mentioned a movie or probably he doesn't know.
