He told me not to get a puppy.

Among the very many not good things that the doctor told me, he said that, in my case, I should not take walks. He ruled out taking a puppy to walk or, in fact, do any kind of exercise with my knees.
I will not rely on his opinion. First I´ll ask my very best friend Humberto, who is a doctor, about taking an appointment with another doctor maybe. And he might have a friend on this specialty.
I suppose that if I stop moving I´ll end up as a cripple.

It is wise to get a second opinion. Do you want a puppy for companionship, or as a reason to walk? I am like you, I want to keep moving. That is what I have understood to be good for the body, unless this doctor thinks there are other reasons.

I want a puppy But I won´t want it to feel she is in jail. So she had to romp as puppies do. So, I want a puppy I can take for a walk

@marguicha That's really a good thing! A dog who is leashed and does not move or play around could get more lazy and grumpy if it doesn't interact with other pets and also to other people. I'm on a stay-in type of work environment and my boss have lots of dogs around here, well there are dogs that really do not bite people but there are breeds of dogs who are so loyal to their owner and also the family of his/her owner that if he feel threatens by people he would bark around and sometimes bite that person.

If you have a knee injury I don't think that you should stop walking totally. Short walks is ok but not very far as it could do more damage than good.

I am not going to run a marathon. But surely I can walk short distances.

I would see someone else.
Maybe he thinks that you could get hurt out walking but that could happen to anyone.
The love for an animal can cure a lot of things and they don´t come in a pill form or powder.

He wants me to not walk, not have a dog, not have a life! He is nuts! If I overcame cancer, I don´t know why I can´t have a nice life with not too much rock and roll

@lovinangelsinstead21 I want a German Shepherd. Although they are big, they are very intelligent and fond of their human friends

It it was me and only me I would get me a Boston Terrier and a small Persian Kitten at the same time and grew them both up together also.
I know you want an Alsation but I see you better with a little dog like that as a Boston Terrier does a lot of talking I can vouch for that.
Just saying eh? Nothing more.
Who says that you cannot Rock and Roll he is a silly man to say for you not to move.
If you don´t move a door it gets rusty right get it me pillas?

I will seek a second opinion, specially for my left knee. And then I´ll think about a dog.

@marguicha My sister in law has fallen two times walking the dog and the second time she broke an arm, also her mother had the same problem. The dog was the golden retriever of my niece, they are not big dogs, but very active and dogs are stronger than we think.

@sallypup This is osteoarthritis, it seems. But I will check on another opinion because if I don´t need surgery, I can get the pills I need without a MRI

@marguicha That sounds like a good idea. When I went to a knee doc cause my left kneecap is out of place, that doc said I needed to lose weight and do thigh strengthening exercises before he'd do surgery. And he said to avoid stairs! I'm not good with docs so I never went back. I live with my knee being weird.

They always say to get a second opinion. Hopefully, the other doctor will have better news.

You should probably get to see another doctor, although I'm not really knowledgeable about that advise you get about not walking or not having any exercise, its just like he sentenced you to just sit all day. Which is I think not really good for everybody supposedly you don't have any ailments you feel on your body. But if its just only arthritis, there are lots of solutions out there that a doctor should be recommending you.

You would think that your doctor would want you to exercise and move around. I think this would be the best thing for you. Just sitting around is not so good. I hope you can find or see another doctor and get a second opinion on this.

Always get a second opinion, I thought if someone has arthritis to walk more to be able to lubricate the bones and joints. Hmm. I hope you find a good answer.

I am not sure I have ever heard a doctor tell anyone not to move around unless, it is some type of short term injury where they need to heal. Most doctors I know always say, walk, run, exercise and all that jargon. Not sure the situation, but sounds like a second opinion is in order.

I just read your other post and see what happened. According to the internet this was more the answer I usually hear from a doctor about your condition.
It's a catch-22 when you have knee pain from osteoarthritis. It hurts, so you don't want to move. But if you exercise, it can eventually make your knees feel better. ... There are many ways that walking helps ease the pain of knee OA. Might be able to get a puppy just yet if that is true.
