I was reading and commenting on a post called Double Trouble. The post was about a place of work that was robbed twice. While commenting on this post it reminded me of a strange incident that happened to me. In my comment I said that we had had items stolen from our secure outside brick garage and our locked garden shed. Many years ago we lived in a nice neighbourhood and had very little trouble with break in. Lots of our neighbours had those alarms fixed in places where you could see them. Just the sight of the alarms provided some sort of deterrent. Like most folk we took sensible precautions. We locked our doors when we went out and secured the shed and garage. I was not much of a gardener but I had a soft spot for fruit trees. I had two plum trees, a pear tree, a cherry tree, and three apple trees. I also had a lot of soft fruit bushes like raspberries, gooseberries etc.. I like fruit trees because they pretty much took care of themselves. All I had to do was go down the garden, water them and have a chat with them. One of my pride and joys was a Bramley apple espalier tree that I had planted against the back wall of my garden. I love Bramley apples they are the best cooking apples in the whole world. I was looking forward to having my own Bramley apples straight from the garden. One evening I went out to talk to my plants and trees. I was doing the rounds checking them over and I had this strange feeling that something was wrong. I couldn't put my finger on it, everything looked okay, but the feeling persisted. In the end I gave up and was walking back down the garden to the house when I realised what was wrong. We had been robbed, and what the thieves had taken was my beautiful bramley apple espalier tree. It never occurred to me that anyone would come into my garden and steal one of my trees. Has anyone ever stolen something strange from you? The photo has nothing to do with the post, I don't have one of the tree that was stolen but this is one of my photographs that I like and the post looked bare with out one

That is a strange thing to steal! I'm sorry that happened, that's terrible. I can't think of anything strange that's been stolen but we have had many things stolen from us. A scooter, our son's bike, $2,000, our truck and our children's piggy banks. It's a horrible feeling being stolen from, very violating.

@LovingMyBabies My goodness that is a lot of things to have had taken from you. You are right one of the things that something like that invokes is a feeling of violation. Thankfully none of the things taken from us were taken from inside our home just from places like the garage, garden shed and of course the garden. All in the outdoor areas of our home.

@maggs224 Some people would say we had it coming because we took in homeless people to help them. We tried to do what Jesus says to do, but we have been taken advantage of many times for it.

@LovingMyBabies Sometimes we just have to alter our perspective a little sometimes. I know when I lose stuff or have it stolen I tend to send out a blessing to follow the item and pray for the person who took it or found it that it will bless them. If at worst there is no God and I have been living in a fools paradise then at least it was a paradise where I didn't hold on to fear, resentment, or feelings of violation. At best it is seed in the ground and the stuff stolen and the blessings sent out will come back to me multiplied. Other people will think and say Jennifer pretty much what they want Jennifer but when you give freely like you have people may think they have taken advantage but if only they had asked they would have received it from us anyway. You keep on following your heart that is the best path to take.

Some people are so despicable. I hope that if the tree bears fruit it gives them eternal stomach ache! Karma is a good thing sometimes!

I @garymarsh6 hi Gary, I hope that where ever that little tree ended up that it was fruitful, I would hate to think of it as a senseless act of vandalism and that it was tossed somewhere to die.

We were robbed once, exactly one week before Christmas. The thieves took a lot of expensive stuff, but somehow they did not take any xmas gifts that were under the tree. We felt violated and very anxious after that.

I'm sure you did. It has to be very traumatic.

@IreneVincent We found it very traumatic. We changed all the locks in the house after that.

@marlina I can imagine how unsettling it must have been and the time of year seems some how to magnify the ordeal, I am glad that they left the gifts under the tree.

This is really odd, but in our days we can expect the most weird things. No one has stolen something strange from me, but someone stole my handbag pushing me on the pavement once.

@IreneVincent It happened in Miami, yes I was hurt, I badly hit my head, fainted and lost a lot of blood. The police recovered my purse, I only had some money inside that was stolen. The original documents and credit cards were in the safe in the room of the hotel. I only had photocopies in my purse.

@LadyDuck I;ve ticked like but obviously I don't like the fact that this awful thing happened to you Anna. I am glad that they did not get all your cards as that can be a long winded thing to sort out especially when you are abroad. It sounds like a nasty experience all together.

Were you hurt? Did you ever get your purse back? I don't carry a purse. I carry my money and other documents like my driver's license and passport, if I'm traveling, on my BODY, but not where it can be seen or reached.

That is a strange robbery. No, I've never had anything strange stolen. I have had a break-in and a lot of destruction because of it. That was heart wrenching.

I am sorry that you had a break in and with the infliction of all that destruction on top of everything else to deal with I can understand why it was a heart wrenching experience for you.

So sorry you had to deal with that. It has to be terrible to be violated in that way.

Was your apple tree big and in a pot? No, from what you wrote there, it was planted against the back wall... How could they do it, just dig the tree up? So odd! (Would a big tree survive a transplant like that? )

@YrNemo It was planted in the garden it was a young tree only recently planted when it was stolen. I think they just leaned over our back wall and pulled on it till it was uprooted,

@maggs224 the poor tree! I do feel for you (even though it was an old pain I guess). Have you replaced it, that is, planting another tree?

Did they steal the whole tree? That is strange indeed. I only heard of people stealing the fruits off someone's trees...

That IS very strange. I hope you were able to replace it. In our area, there are a lot of thefts of copper from air conditioning units. The copper can be sold. The thieves just rip it out of the units and RUIN the air conditioners. When I first heard this, I thought it was so despicable.

@IreneVincent I never really had the heart to replace it, and back then money was tight and there was always something more urgent that needed to be bought.
