A scary toilet

We stopped in a town today and visited an ancient church in the town of Bourganeuf. So many French towns have ancient churches or cathedrals and we find them all fascinating. On our way back to our motor-home we passed some public toilets so in I went.
It was what I call a ‘squat’ toilet which apparently is quite normal for the French although I always thought that only Asian countries had these. As I shut the door, there was a whirring and grinding sound and suddenly three-quarters of the floor was being blasted with water from three jets.
I did what I needed to do but I was really worried I might get washed along with everything else as at that stage I didn’t know what was activating the water. Luckily there was no action till I opened the door at which point the whirring and buzzing began again and the whole thing got another soaking. Always a new experience to encounter!
The photo has nothing to do with the post but is a cleverly made dog which was at our last camping ground.

@JudyEv Great photo - I was wondering how it related to the title until your explanation - those toilets do sound dreadful

@DianneN I got caught the first time. Then sometimes they'll have paper in them until you get lulled into a sense of security and boom - the next one doesn't have it. I think I have toilet tissue in every pocket in every garment. When I get home it will probably all go through the wash! Note to self - remember to empty pockets!

I can see now it is a dog. At first, I thought what kind of medieval toilet torture device is that.

Certainly they can be but mostly the toilets have been okay.

Before I read your post, I was closely examining the photo and trying to figure out how that sculpture of the dog functioned as a toilet. I was thinking to myself that there was no way a woman could use that as a toilet! haha

@JudyEv Well, I always read your posts anyway, but this one had me particularly intrigued, because I desperately needed to know how that dog sculpture functioned as a toilet! hahaha

@teamfreak16 @moffittjc So did you both then feel compelled to read the post? Quite often I say upfront that the photo has nothing to do with the post but I didn't do that this time. Another case of - I know what I'm talking about but I forget about someone coming to it unprepared as it were.

@moffittjc Toilet posts always get lots of comments. Funny, isn't it?

@JudyEv I am reading more often to opt not to change bed sheets and towels at hotels to save water and thus not contaminate water bodies through excess detergent use. I follow that doing my part for the environment. I have lived in places where water is scarce - siva

I have to say I'm glad the photo has nothing to do with the post as I spent a number of minutes studying it to figure out how it might be a toilet. It certainly looked scary.

There are some interesting toilet habits around the world. I have seen in Germany where there is a little shelf within the toilet pan I guess so you can inspect your business! I do not like the squat toilets at all!

We've seen those too. Vince has a little whinge about them every time.

Ohhh, that's a dog! It is cute. I am glad that the strange watery toilet did not dampen your enthusiasm.

Strange bathrooms are always an adventure. Last week my third daughter took Sandra for the day. She has. O children and her bathroom story had us laughing until it hurt. Maybe I'll share the story later.

@Morleyhunt I like the thought of 'time and opportunity' colliding. A great way to put it.

It was the sluishing beforehand and jets of water splashing very near my feet!
