I haven't yet had that opportunity, but millions of people confirm the idea that in order to truly learn a language more fully, you need to be immersed in the culture of the place where you want to learn the language.
I believe this is really effective, but how far is it really valid?

Being surrounded by the language helps a lot, I am studying Japanese and I can understand a lot of words, and I watch a lot of anime...so that helps haha!

@TheInvisibleMan Heck yeah, apparently one of the best ways to learn a language is to listen to it while you sleep! Haha doesn't really help with reading though.

Here in Israel we have many people from different countries and hear a lot of different languages. The language of Israel is Hebrew. We have places where we go to learn the language. We also had easy reading newspapers where we learned to read it. People learn from watching movies with subtitles or just listening and picking up things from others that speak the language.

To be immersed in the culture of the place where you want to learn the language helps to learn faster, but it is not absolutly necessary. There are so many ways to learn a language efectivly. Did you try tandem learning? Internet is very helpfull if you use programms like Skype.

It definitely helps to converse in a language with those who know it in order to learn it. But, you should also learn some grammar, and engage in reading and writing. Just conversing may give you an idea to speak something, but you will not know if what you speak is correct.
But, to begin with, conversing and exchanging your ideas in a language definitely help improve that language. Hope this helps.
