Do You Remember The Cabbage Patch Doll

Back in the 1980's there was a popular doll called the Cabbage Patch Doll. Every little girls was dying to have one. It came with a name and a birth certificate.
My girls were no different. All three of my girls wanted one. These dolls were not easy to obtain because of their popularity. Being the type of mom I am and the fact that my girls asked only for this doll for Christmas I was bound and determined to make it happen.
The first one was easy to get. A friend of mine, when they first came out, had purchased two of them. She only needed one so she gave me the other one.
The next one I got because another friend had a son who worked at Toy R Us and told us about the delivery that was expected on a certain day. So I went extra early to the store ( really, the middle of the night ) to wait in line for the store to open. I was lucky enough to get the second one.
The third doll I found in a store in New York City. I happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Did you now that these dolls now can cost you up to $5,000 each? Amazing isn't it?
Why oh why didn't I save those dolls?

My children were no exception. They also wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll. My budget would not allow for such extravagance. I made them dolls....I made dolls for friends and family. Most of those Dolls are still around.

I think I had one cabbage patch kids doll before. My cousin who lives in New Jersey had a collection but I'm not sure if she still has them until now. They were expensive in the Philippines that's why I only had one.

I had one in the 80's and I was no kid! They are made in Cleveland, GA and you can take a tour of the place, it's quite neat. I would not pay 5 grand for one, there are too many of them on the market to get that price.

I absolutely detested those dolls and would not buy one for my daughter no matter how much she begged and pleaded for one. I thought they were the ugliest dolls ever made. Her grandfather eventually got her one. She played with it for a little while and then the charisma wore off. I don't even know what happened to that doll.
I'm glad you were able to procure them for your girls.

Wow, those prices! I had a mini doll and a full sized doll but I gave them up after becoming scared of them. My sister, who was nine years older than me and should have known better, told me that she'd read a newspaper article in which Cabbage Patch Dolls were coming alive at night and strangling their owners. I believed her and gave the dolls up pretty quickly! They were like gold dust at the time. I think that they are still making a version of them.

That is a lot of money. Even in those days I thought these dolls were rather expensive. I remember one of my good friends at that time just had to have one and she was already grown up. So we walked all over the stores in NYC until she found just the doll she wanted. I also know that she probably doesn't have that doll anymore what with her children also now grown up and everything but I also know that she says she always needs money. So most likely she is another one who will be so disappointed she not longer has the doll. I never bought one for myself.

I had a few of them when I was a kid and I believe I still have them stored somewhere. I remember how popular they were back in the day.
