I have to keep a carry bag with me when I am out for shopping!

Dear friends, It has been long time the ‘ban’ on plastic is ‘on’ and ‘off’. Last Sunday on buying something from a shop the shop keeper told me the plastic bags are banned and those who violate the law will impose a fine of Rs. 5000/-. However, the following days I have seen plastic bags everywhere including with the vegetable sellers. Yesterday, I was in a departmental store, there the sales man told that the polythene bags are not available. Means the supply is stopped so they are in trouble. I guessed this time the government is adopting some strong method to stop the use of plastic bags. Personally I feel good with the non availability of plastic bags, because it creates so many messes all over the place. I may be in trouble because I have to remember all the time when I go for grocery shopping, to carry a bag with me. It does not matter. I really wish and hope the usage of plastic carry bags will be stopped this time completely. Your takes please!

It's also on and off here in my country. You will see others use paper bags but others still use plastic bags. We accumulate a lot plastic bags every time we do shopping. One supermarket here uses plastic bags that are biodegradable. They will break down after a year

Small polythene bags, mostly used by the vegetable vendors create all the mess. Cows used to eat these bags, because people use these polythene to pack eatables and give to cows.

Yes, the enforcement of law does matter. Sadly here it is not, I hope this time it will work positively.

Here the plastic bags will not be offered free of charge. So whenever I go out for shopping, I will bring my own cloth bag. I don't think it is troublesome for me. I like to do something good for the environment.

We need exactly that kind of system. When you know you have to pay for the plastic bag, you will be vigilant to keep one carry bag with you. I like that idea very much.

I think I agree too. I like Aldis system although it can be a pain, how they charge you a few cents per bag.

Yesterday I heard, they said they will charge for bags. What I felt, if they started to charge for plastic bags then definitely people ready to carry their own bags. In emergency it is ok to pay charges.

Yes, strong steps needed to prevent it completely. I think stopping the supply or beginning from the manufacturer, then it will make some sense.

@Sreekala its the best solution but I don't know why government always choose regulation instead of stopping.

@shantalclay That is the problem with most of the governments. They are good in making Laws but not successful on implementing the same.

To be honest, I don't carry bags with me. The reason, most of the time I shop on my way back to home from office. But today I kept a bag in my hand bag to avoid any problems while shopping.

Time to go back in time when we had one bag for things like veggies and the other for milk, bread and eggs. I recycle all the plastic bags not one escapes me and they all go in the plasics recycle bin for sure.

Even here it's on and off every time. Sometimes they are available and sometimes they are not available. ..but it's good if they ban completely

I am sorry for being late. Yes, we too use that way. Now again the government forgot about the Law and merchants are freely using plastic bags.

there is no plastic bag day on saturdays only. If forgot to bring the recycle bag, just have pay 20 cent per plastic bag used

My goodness, that is a good punishment on remembering to carry the bag. I think that Law should implement here too.

This post reminds me that plastic bags and nylon papers have been completely burned in my country since August 28. Today I went to the shop with one of them because I had completely forgotten about the new policy. I was reminded by the shopkeeper and everyone was laughing at me. It was so funny but because of that experience, I will not forget again.

In India it is difficult to get a carry bag, mostly we have to take it from home. In some places there are plastic bags but we have to pay for the bag. It is better to take a carry bag from home.

It is always better to carry our own bag. In this place ban is 'on' and 'off'. When government forget about ban plastic bags will be provided with goods as free of cost.
