My Disappearance From myLot And The Reasons Why

Good morning all and hello. I trust you have all had a most wonderful summer. I thought I was going to but that didn't turn out exactly as planned. I was going to take a bit of time off from myLot this summer to do some things I wanted to do. You guys know I love to fish and camp, travel and generally enjoy the summer months. I think my last post was on June 3rd. The 2nd week of June my husband and I got all packed up to go to our favorite lake and just fish and relax. All was well for the moment. Sadly that moment didn't last as long as I had anticipated. We arrived at camp and got that all set up and then spent a few hours in the boat fishing. Then it was time for a much needed cup of coffee and some dinner. We got back to camp and put the kettle on for coffee. And then disaster struck. I tripped on a tree root, and put out my left hand to break my fall. Now let me say I'm just to darn old to fall and I'm left handed. And yes you guessed it, I broke my wrist and quite spectacularly I might add. It instantly swelled to epic proportions and turn a lovely shade of purple. I thought I was going to pass out the pain was so great. Being 150 miles from home in the middle of nowhere is not the best place to break a bone by any stretch of the imagination. The nearest hospital was about 50 miles away. So....... needless to say we had to pack up camp or should I say my hubby had to pack up camp and away we went. We had ice so we carefully wrapped my wrist in a towel with ice, my husband packed us up and we drove to the hospital. After xrays were taken I asked them to splint my wrist so I could go home. They said the swelling was to great to cast it at that time. So with my wrist in a splint and my belly full of strong pain meds we made our way home. I ended up in a splint for over a week to get the swelling down and then a cast, my first cast ever and opted for a green one lol, I was in that cast for approx. 2 1/2 months. I just got the cast off last week. So typing with one hand and my right hand at that just didn't work out to good for me and that's really the main reason I have been away from mylot. The past week I have just been typing like a mad women to get some strength in my hand. I have made many errors on this post and it's taken me some time to get this done but all is well. I have much other news in my life which I will share here in other posts. Now I'm off to read the bizillion or so posts I have missed this past 3 months.

Actually I think a cuss word or two passed my lips but certainly not meant for the tree lol. Yes I'm now doing fine, my arm and wrist are a bit weak but that too shall pass. Yea falling at my age is a really scary deal.

@ramapo17 .. Aw...in this case it is not the mistake of balance but mistake of eyes focused elsewhere forgetting that the floor cannot be even like the tiled floors at home..and oh that root of the tree just didn't get a chance to say...watch where you are going...I doubt if fishtiger58 is old enough to be losing balance the way some older people do.

@vandana I can tell you are not old enough to know this but some people lose their balance a lot when they get older. You will find that out for yourself.

I am so sorry, I know how painful it is to break a bone, I broke my right elbow when I was a kid and it was a long and painful recovery. At those time the only option for a cast was white. I hope you are fine now.

And here I thought you were off galavanting all over the place fishing and exploring. I'm glad you healed but it takes such a long time for broken wrists to heal. Glad you're back.

Just take er easy young lady @fishtiger58 it's really important to give that wrist and arm time to heal really well before really getting into punching keys again.

I sure wish that was the case, I got so frustrated not being able to type that I just said forget it. I go back once I can type again. My arm and wrist are weak and I'm making errors with my typing but still better than one handed. I'm glad I'm back too thanks.

I am so sorry to read of your accident. And you didn't even really get much of your holiday in, that's sad, but hopefully you can return next year and pick up where you left off this year-minus the fall. I've never had a cast either. Welcome back!

We did do some more camping and fishing after I got casted but I wasn't a whole lot of help. Being left handed I couldn't even throw my bait out with my fishing pole. Thankfully hubby didn't mind much he was really a good sport with all this mess. Yea my first cast ever. I have broken a toe or two but they don't cast that lol.

I am so sorry to hear about your accident and broken wrist. A few years back I broke my arm and fractured it in 4 places. One clean break and 4 fractures. I know what you mean about the pain. It is horrible. They couldn't put me in a cast because of the location of the break. So I was in a sling for 3 months until it healed completely. After that there was many hours of physical therapy so I could move my arm again. Please take care and I am glad everything is OK and you are back now.

I am so sorry you broke your wrist. Green is a nice color. I went with purple when I broke my ankle in 2010. I hope it won't take too long to get the typing back to normal. I would be beside myself if I broke my wrist. I can't imagine me not typing or being on the computer. I would need an alternative way to do things.

It seems we forget how much we do with two hands when we go down to one huh, my mom is left handed and when she had her stroke it affected the left side. However, her saving grace was that she was so dominant on that left side that it didn't know it stroked and she has perfect use of it.

I am out of the cast and all is well just a bit weak in my arm and wrist. I think they called it a distal radius fracture but I could be wrong lol. It was swollen almost immediately and hugely bruised. But it wasn't hanging down or anything like that.
